I was driving home a few hours ago and was listening to the John Batchelor Show on the radio. He had Gordon Chang on and they were talking about how war between India and Pakistan was going to break out imminently. They talked about military capabilities and Chang mentioned that Pakistan had the JF-17. Then he mentioned how China was trying to sell Pakistan its Shenyang FC-1. LOL!!!!
Clearly he either never did his homework beforehand, or his "homework" is completely bass-ackwards to begin with anyway.

My guess is that Mr. Chang wants to fleece that new Taiwan think tank in DC (can't quiet remember their name) for some speaking fees. After all, fools and their money...
Amen to that, and wait till you see yet more bass-ackwardness on Taiwan's media landscape.

So, he might actually make off a few envelops of Benjamins...

The really infuriating thing is the Chang knows better (I was at a Heritage event were he asked a very intelligent question about Chinese ASW practice). It's the mendacity that's just so... maddening.

My guess is that he published his initial book with some seriousness, then China didn't collapse which should have banished him away, but those checks and news broadcast interviews just kept on coming in anyways. At that point Gordon Gutherie Chang decided to cynically milk the gravy train for all it was worth.

Thought you should know that these days, saying "F*** you China" (literally or otherwise, you get the point) everyday and twice on Sundays is quite a gravy train, whether in the US, UK, Taiwan or HK.

But it's not like he even goes through the trouble of putting any effort into it, a Chang essay today reads almost the same as one five or ten years ago.

Pretty sweet gig though.

It seems there's a lucrative market to sell neocons and liberal interventionists the world they wish to see, and not how it really is, even if totality of evidence show the contrary. Noted authors like you could get on shows like Sean Hannity, Bill O'Riley, Anderson Cooper and trade your intellectual honesty for cash.

There's really no need to restore all of the Great Wall (nor is it even possible). Restoration means making it palatable and accessible to visitors, which is simply unnecessary for 90% of the Great Wall, since they are located on extremely difficult terrain.

The repair work mentioned above might be poor in aesthetics, but it serves the practical purpose of keeping that section of the Great Wall from crumbling.

In fact, some sections of the original Great Wall are now nothing more than an eroded earthen rampart.

Exactly, and that concrete will seal the original wall sections and protect them from further damage by the elements until they can be truly "restored".

@Skywatcher- I just want to make it clear you've been a standup guy with all your posts and publications.
