Thanks for the info! What kind of qualifications does a young person need to enter Guilin army school? Do they need to take an examination to qualify? Is it difficult to enter this school? Do the parents have to be Communist Party members?
PLA military school normally recruit aplicants from two sources. one is from high school leavers who got good grades in university entrance exam at that years. no previous year school leaver allowed, that means u get only 1 chance if u take the exam. And also you must pass medical health check and political check. u eyesight must over4.9, height over 162cm, weight over 50kg, etc. political check is not very important these days, but u must have no criminal record. PLA military school have privilege that recruit their applicants prior to civilian unversity recruitment. the other source of students for military school is the excellent soldiers already enlisted in the army. these guys must be a squad leader(or vice leader) and pass the military school entrance exam, lots of high school leaver take this way if they failed in the uni entrance exam first. these days, there are some students so called national defence student (国防生)in civilian university. they are contracted with PLA, that they will serve in PLA for several years after gradute, and in exchange government pay their studies fees. they receive military training for a specified time each year and grant a same rank as military school graduates when they entering service.

Thanks, this is very interesting! In the USA, there is a similar process for the military to get officers (besides the academies). The military has Officer Candidate Schools for people who have finished civilian university, or are already enlisted in the military.

For the PLA enlisted ranks, what is the youngest age you can join? Are the majority of recruits from the farming areas?

For soldiers, enlist age from 18 to 22, For military school applicants, must younger than 22. Lots of PLA recruits are from poor family. :)

Hello, I am new here and I have some questions related to this topic.

Are pilots in the PLAAF and PLAN trained in separate academies or are they trained with other officers within their services?

BTW: do pilots have to be commissioned officers(i.e. Second Lieutenant or higher) or do they employ specialist enlisted personnel (Sergeants or below) or warrant officers as pilots as well?

Thanks.

So what is the lowest rank a pilot in a J-8/J-7 Squadron in the PLAAF/PLAN would hold? What is the minimum rank required to be a squadron or flight leader respectively?

Thanks for any answers to these questions.

I am a chinese guy who nearly went to 'chinese west point' command college, when i just finished my high school,[18 yrs old]. the reason i did not go there just because i would like to go to UK for my further education. But i can tell u one thing is sentence is obslutely wrong, there are more that 60% of student come from high school when they passed physical exams and got high grads from their leaving certificate.
