The Chinese company this is purportedly sold to is this:

Let's just say I am somewhat skeptical about this.
Maybe its a front company for the larger members of the AVIC group. Maybe this is done for political reasons as to not offend Ukraines western backers. A small private company like this will draw less attention than one of the larger AVIC members like XAC. Remember the Varyag/Liaoning episode?

But lets wait and see what comes of this and wait for some official confirmation on this.

It's an airport construction and management firm with numerous (claimed) business and projects all over the mainland. If it's a front it's been around for a fair while. It's also been registered in HK since 2012 with 500 million HKD capital. (about 60 million USD).

This is an analysis from Guancha.cn (your one-stop guide to Chinese affairs, with a pro-China slant).

I was going to say the same thing. A company called Chong Lot Travel Agency technically bought the Varyag and looks where Liaoning is now.

I don't think Chong Lot travel agents are manning her helm nor flying J-15s off her.

If this is true, odds are it's a front company but don't read too much into it as a negative. It is not necessarily an odious thing where governments/corporations using smaller front companies to purchase large ticket items things. Probably more PR and makes accounting easier in some ways. Couple of guys may get a lil richer maybe politicians but that's not too uncommon. We're not talking purchasing ICBMs or some super secret earth killing weapons here!

The Varyag is a thing you can buy and move. And even then it took years for it to get to China. An actual assembly line with full TOT...

When you look inside the C17's cargo bay you'll see a roof like this:

The "beam" in the middle will restrict its ability to carry something that is both long and tall.

By lifting the wingbox upwards, you won't have such a restriction, but you will get a humpback and slightly increase drag.

With that bulkhead in place there is no way a MBT or a AH is going to get into that plane. You can use it to transport troops, supplies, other vehicles and turn it into tankers and AWACS planes. But you cannot transport tanks and helicopters in it. Transporting tanks and helicopters isn't a requirement of the PLA ?

I suddenly realize that the bulkhead is on the front end of the plane.:D

Henri K.'s blog reports that two production facilities will be planned: one in Luzhou and another in Guigang.

Don't know if these two plants will operate in support of one big assembly line or have separate assembly lines of their own.
