... and from what I figured, the Government holds up there now ("Um Alqara" in the map below):

(several fresh maps inside) who sounds cautious, points out the fights have been going on for 25 days and the lines are still fluid, so tactical loss(es) now may quickly have operational consequences (and he refers to both sides) ... is what I read in the source I quoted
and now I read in Russian Internet

the Government had attacked 13 times during last week; its casualties: between 1500 and 2000
(pro-Government sources coy about how it's going)

... I saw claims of Rebels planning to merge Jarabulus and Al-Rai areas, so I looked at the map (the distance of the route shown in blue is 58 km; ironically I can't get rid of "Live traffic" banner in the bottom):

according to the most recent map I found (shows pretty much of what I read in several Twitter accounts, too), Rebels are in midway:

Asif do it regurlarly, old style can be good :)

6 Rafales arrived in Jordania, remains 4 Mirage 2000D/NK3 on 8 soon left

Chammal: Rafale deployed in air base in Jordan

This detachment from the 30th and 4th fighter squadrons, was deployed in two waves, on 22 and 27 august, thanks to the tanker aircraft C135FR and A400M transport aircraft. The first projection, consisting of four hunters, was greeted by Colonel Jean-Luc, commander of the deployed air base and Colonel Michel Friedling, representing General Serge Cholley, commanding the Chammal force.

Taking over from the Mirage 2000 to optimize the use of the air force fighter planes on different theaters of operation, the Rafale were prepared for battle, in less than 24 hours, thanks to the support a deployed air base fully mobilized for this purpose. Aircraft have immediately started their first air support missions, intelligence and combat in depth, above Syria and Iraq.

For 18 months, the air force provides, in time and in favor of external operations, twenty fighters, well above the operational contract number defined by the White Paper of 2013, while respecting national commitments with regard to the international coalition fighting against Daech (Inherent Resolve operation).

Launched on September 19, 2014, the Chammal operation is mobilizing nearly 1,000 soldiers. It aims at the request of the Iraqi government and in coordination with France's allies in the region, to fight against the terrorist group proclaimed Daech, in particular conducting air strikes against him.

The complete device in external operations in the Levant is currently structured around sixteen of the air force fighters (Rafale twelve, four Mirage 2000D), a maritime patrol aircraft Atlantique 2 and intelligence capabilities, command and control (C2) and supplies. It also includes a hundred military planned in Baghdad and Erbil for training and counseling staffs and Iraqi units

appeared, making the above claim of huge casualties partly believable; recent Government gains ... at first glance I can't see any in the maps from inside:

It is almost a non-information so it has been announced to readers of this blog: the great
overhaul of the air force hunting blocks was completed last week with the arrival of six Rafale, twice waves ( 22 and 27 August), with the support of " Britain " tankers and Atlas " Touraine ". The Rafale and the pilots themselves are provided by the 30th squadron of Mont-de-Marsan ( thus possibly by the " Normandie-Niemen " and " Provence " ) and the 4th squadron of Saint-Dizier ( thus the " Gascogne, " who returns to Barkhane Operation )

One might think that this is regardless of the number of tankers available over was made twice. But in fact, the main concern seems to have been to maintain the operational tempo to Al-Safawi during this succession, almost transparent to Daech. There has been mixed raids, mixing Rafale and 2000D of the base. They should leave Jordan within hours, after being present without interruption since 28 November 2014, 21 months (not 18).

Despite successive accelerations ( which also participated Mirage 2000NK3 of " Lafayette " ) operational tempo, the muds held the shock, and all returned to base.
The last crash of a Mirage 2000D was in June 2014, in Niger: the crew was recovered unharmed.

In direction #5 the name I used is pretty inaccurate ("Tall Sayyad salient") as the fights are taking place now relatively far from Tall Sayyad, and the front-line changed its shape after the recent fall of Morek. This map purports to show the current positions:

and today Rebels tried to push it from that bulge north to Hama:

it seems they haven't achieved much yet ... but if they do, I'll update this post

It's rather curious that the Syrian government had been choosing to fight in every direction other than closing out the Swiss cheese holes in their territory, thereby allowing attacks such as this to happen.
