Heard this a while ago no more details have been released on the carrier

A second LHD however is planned

Btw steel for the first unit TCG Anadolu L-408 was cut a few months ago

Delivery is scheduled for 5 years time if not sooner shaving off a year if they work well
It would be nice for them to have two of the Canberra/Juan Carlos class LHDs, particularly when they are stating right up front that they will carry F-35Bs. I can see them buying 16-25 F-35Bs for those two alone.

I would like to get some details and spec on what they are considering for a carrier because the Turkish president himself made it pretty clear that a separate dedicated carrier was in the works and that there was really nothing standing in the way of it.

I'm going to stick my neck out and suggest it will be a STOVL carrier like the Brits, I believe the Brits going with the front deck ramp have given that configuration a "new kool" that prior to the QE and PW they simply did not have, made the ramp "socially acceptable" or at least a viable money saving alternative???

...made so, really, with the addition of the Bravo F-35.

That aircraft s a game changer for any ski-jump carrier.

I agree, and in my disgust over the cessation of F-22 production, I had an almost loathing of the F-35 in general, and the F-35B in particular, but as the years go by, the F-35 is now the "best game in town", offering some amazing capabilities that are an awesome team when operated side by side with F-22's, and as the flight envelope was opened up, particularly High Alpha testing, it became apparent that the F-35 had inherited a great deal of "Raptor Goodness", and hey, I gotta love me some LockMart.

Your family aeroplane co is Chance/Vought, and mine has always been Lockheed, loved the 130, thought the F-104 was beautiful and innovative, the SR-71 a technological miracle, and when the Raptor came along, they delivered on all that good genetics once again. LOL

Vought had a good run, from the 1930s into the 1980s.

The Kingfisher
The F4U Corsair
The F-7 Cutlass
The F-8 Crusader
The A-7 Corsair II

Built the tail section of the S-3 Viking.

But when they lost the F-8U3 to the F-4 Phantom purely over the Navy's desire to have two engines and two pilots irrespective of the better flight envelop, performance, and capabilities of the F8U3, their US Navy major aircraft days were over.

They did do some other neat things after. Th entire Multiple Lunch Rocket System (MLRS) which is still used today was a GREAT run fr them.

Numerous missiles.

But it was sad to see their US Navy aircraft days go they way of the earth.

Turkish Air Force changes name of main base in Ankara used in coup attempt

The Turkish Air Force has changed the name of the Akıncı Air Base in Ankara, which was used as the headquarters of the July 15 failed coup attempt, Doğan News Agency has reported.
The air base was renamed to its original name, Mürted, which was used until 1995, referring to apostates from the Ottoman forces during the Battle of

and the Timurid Empire in 1402.

The Air Force also degraded the base’s status from brigade command to base command. According to the organizational structure of the Air Force, the commander of a base command holds the rank of colonel. In addition, base commands do not host fleets but are only used by other fleets during deployments.

Three F-16 fleets at the base were also shut down according to a decree law under the state of emergency. Around 60 F-16s belonging to the 141st, 142nd and 143rd fleet were sent to air bases in Merzifon and the neighboring provinces of Eskişehir and Konya.

The Akıncı Air Base was used as the center of the failed coup attempt on the night of July 15, which was blamed on the Fetullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ). Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar and force commanders were taken to the base and held captive by pro-coup soldiers. However, they were all later freed in a special forces operation in the early hours of July 16. Its runways were also bombed to prevent F-16s used by the coup plotters from taking off.

Opened in 1960, Akıncı was constructed on the Mürted Lowland in the west of

to provide defense to the capital.

The base currently hosts facilities of the Turkish Aerospace Industries, but its future uses remain unclear in the aftermath of the coup attempt.

Defense Minister Fikri Işık had earlier said the Akıncı Air Base would be opened to the public as a “democracy park” as a part of the government’s move to relocate a number of troops in Istanbul and

Chamber of Industry (ASO) said part of the base should be affiliated with the air and aviation industries center in the region, while the remaining part of the base could become a “democracy park.”
