Some young Indian Dudes "wet dream", his name is on the by-line! which is great, but not likely to happen, I believe the Indians want a real 5th gen, and while they would love to have FGFA, it would come to them at a quoted 250 million per copy??? pretty pricey for a joint venture??? you bet.

As I told my "Bar Brother" several summers ago, the Indians are likely going to want the F-35, it will be capable, and it will be fairly reasonable as Fifth gens go, they are expensive, but the F-35 will bring with it "inter-operability" and that is always a force multiplier.

I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see them go for the B model for the Navy and the A model for the Air Force, if they build a Catobar carrier, they would likely want the C??? so they have lots of options, I believe they are quite happy with the Mig 29Ks??

I suppose the Russians will be replacing the SU-33s with the K as it comes along??? Not sure what the Russian Naval Aviators will think of that??

Upgrades mentioned in this article and other sources are mostly in avionics, possibly new engines . New stealthier fuselage is never mentioned, I don't think India would want to buy that because this would mean actually designing new aircraft. And they already have PAK FA offered to them .

Price of upgrade is somewhere around $40 million per plane . Is it expensive ? Could be, but we still don't know what would be included in package (biggest mystery is the radar)

Very expensive, but about 1/2 of the price of new??? so it will no doubt be an expensive depot level rebuild??? and $40 million a pop, seems very expensive?? new fuse/wingboxes??? could be????

upgrade package
Normaly all 272 right now in order modernized in Super Su-30MKI
HAL build about 18/year, for a Sqn.

40 millions seems much but can include weapons especialy new BrahMos-A ?

A things is sure with 200 Mig-21/27 retired soon even with 36 Rafale ? T-50 for later 2020+ IAF need more Su-30 at less 40 as annouced these last time and build by Russia more fast to get.
Idealy more, 126 as planned for initial order planned for Rafale less 36, so 90.

Max 36 Rafale seems but don' t change problem for India quite sure Dassault can 't delivered much with last orders Egypt, Qatar remains about 40 French minimum and time necessary for HAL for build no comments...
