Good but Philippines need much more especialy combattants well armed not Hamilton's with only a gun and a recc helo.

RTA signed the contract for Norinco VT-4 or MBT-3000

Source in RTA told TAF that the Royal Thai Army signed the contract last month with the undisclosed number of tank and contract value. But the aim is to field a battalion of VT-4.

Eelier, RTA ordered the 50 T-84 Oplot-M from Ukraine to meet the requirement of 200 new main battle tank. But the unrest in Ukraine delayed the delivery.

If RTA satisfied with the Chinese tank, the source said, they will order for to meet all unfilled requirement of 150 tanks.

"Even the VT-4 will be manufacture in China but the contract require technology transfer to Thailand. Defense Technology Institute will be one of the technology receiver"

Delivery is expected in 2 years.

NEW DELHI — In a major win for the Indian warship building industry, India's state-run Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) Ltd has emerged as the winner for Philippine Navy's big-ticket modernization program.

GRSE was the lowest bidder to supply two light frigates and hopes to seal the contract worth more than $321 million in the next two months, said one GRSE official.

A total of four firms joined the bidding for the Philippine Navy project: GRSE; Hyundai Heavy Industries Inc. and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd., both from South Korea; and Navantia S.A. of Spain.

GRSE, administered by the Indian Ministry of Defence, has built 95 warships, including frigates, corvettes and fast patrol boats, since 1960.

GRSE's light frigate will be a design based on the Indian Navy's Kamorta-class anti-submarine corvette and will be capable of withstanding Sea State 7, which means it can withstand a wave height of up to 9 meters.

The 2,000-tonne frigate will be 95 meters long, have a combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) configuration propulsion system and be able to work in an area contaminated with nuclear, biological, and chemical agents.

In addition, it will have a tactical data link and radio capable of tactical communication. The frigates will have 76mm naval guns and fire control radar with a built-in electro-optical tracking system integrated into the Combat Management System (CMS).

The state-owned Goa Shipyard is also building two OPVs for the Sri Lankan Navy under India's government-to-government exchange agreement with Sri Lanka. First OPV will be delivered by end of this year and second OPV by middle of next year.

The Indonesian Navy has retrieved an oil tanker that had been hijacked by pirates off Borneo arresting nine suspects, all Indonesians, who reportedly had intended to steal and sell the ship’s oil.

The 20 crew members and one passenger of the ship, identified as the MV Hai Soon 12, have been rescued and unharmed, Navy spokesman Edi Sucipto is quoted as saying by local media.

The ship is reported to be carrying some 50,000 gallons of oil.

On 8 May, the Maritime Security Task Force (MSTF) Ops Centre of the Singapore Navy received information that an oil tanker, Hai Soon 12, lost communications while transiting through the Java Sea.

The MSTF notified the Indonesian Navy of the incident via the centre’s Indonesian International Liaison Officer (ILO).

According to Sucipito, the navy sent a patrol ship to pursue the tanker after it disappeared from the Automatic Identification System (AIS) while underway from Singapore to Dumai city. The ship then reappeared elsewhere transmitting a different vessel name, the KM Aiso, arousing suspicion.

The navy managed to locate the ship and board it, thwarting the planned oil theft.

The MV Hai Soon 12 is said to be flagged under the Cook Islands.

Based on the ship’s latest tracking data, the 1993-built tanker is stopped in Surabaya, Indonesia.
