there's a very interesting video "Compilation of tank hits in Syria" which I can't post as in (at least) one case it shows too clearly a "survivor" finished off outside of his tank; since 12:35 there's even a tank-on-tank filmed

Syrian Army begins operation to open new supply route to Aleppo

The Syrian Arab Army’s 555th Regiment of the 4th Mechanized Division made their first major push across the Al-Hoss Plateau’s southwestern countryside on Thursday, capturing the entire mountain range from the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and their allies from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki.

This advance inside the Al-Hoss Plateau is rather significant for the Syrian Armed Forces because it helps build a larger buffer-zone around their only supply route to the Aleppo Governorate.

As long as the Khanasser-Aleppo Highway remains under their control, then the Syrian Armed Forces can continue their military operations in both the southwestern and southeastern parts of the Aleppo Governorate.

The capture of Jabal Hoss also allows for the Syrian Armed Forces to make an important push to reopen the Ramleh-Aleppo Road that is adjacent to the Khanasser-Aleppo Highway.

A major problem that is plaguing the Syrian Armed Forces is the absence of an alternative supply route to Aleppo; this has been an issue since they lost the Aleppo-Damascus Highway (M-5 Highway).

The capture of Ramleh and its nearby villages that are under rebel control in northeast Hama would not only open this new supply route, but also, alleviate much of the pressure on the Khanasser-Aleppo Highway.

I've seen it. I expect it, but it isn't yet happening. I wonder how the effects of these pronouncements are considered. I would think they give warning in good time then wait carefully until the attention of the enemy has been directed elsewhere?

LOL delft do you think anybody in Syria reads the statements made outside of Syria? more specifically, do you think ISIL planners would plan accordingly to what they read at РИА?
(my answers, so that I start first :) are:
  1. just people involved in War Propaganda (to spin or use literally or ridicule such an announcement); and
  2. no)

LOL talking about announcements, seconds ago I noticed
Russia's Lavrov says Syria's Assad is not an ally -RIA

now I'll try to locate the source, read what Sergey Victorovich exactly said :) (if I succeed, I'll edit this post)
EDIT
apparently just something like "by the way" missing in the first sentence of the translation in the link above, as compared to what's in the original:

EDIT AGAIN:
probably related is the most recent announcement (by the Russian Ministry of Defense) of pulling off all the Su-25 CAS aircraft:

No, Syria is the ally. As it happens Assad is president and for the new presidential elections within 18 months(?) there is no credible alternative. As Mrs Thatcher used to say There Is No Alternative.
I suppose that the winged aircraft of the Syrian air force are now sufficient. Has Russia sent more helicopters?

Russia is playing a very complex "game" in which a measure of military presence in Syria is an important component. See for example:

The survival of the Syrian state is necessary for success in this "game".
