Embraer ‘Phenom 100’ jets selected to train armed forces aircrew in the United Kingdom

The Embraer Phenom 100 business jet was selected to provide multi-engine pilot training to armed forces aircrew in the United Kingdom. The contract with Affinity Flight Training Services will provide five aircraft to the U.K Ministry of Defence’s Military Flying Training System, (UKMFTS) program. The contract includes support services and an option for additional follow on aircraft.

The Fixed Wing programme is intended to replace the elementary, multi-engine and basic flying training that is currently delivered on aging platforms with a new fully integrated solution that provides state-of-the-art training aircraft, ground based training devices and courseware all derived from the training design developed by Ascent Flight Training, the training service provider of the MFTS programme in UK. In 2014, Affinity was selected by Ascent Flight Training to provide and operate the aircraft selected for the MFTS programme.

“We are very proud to be selected in such an important programme for United Kingdom´s Ministry of Defence”, said Jackson Schneider, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “The Phenom 100 is a very reliable, cost-effective and easy to operate aircraft that was also selected to provide flight training services to major international airlines”.

The UKMFTS takes United Kingdom armed forces aircrew from initial training through, elementary, basic and advanced flying training phases preparing them for their arrival at their designated operational conversion units. The system is operated by Ascent Flight Training, a consortium formed by Lockheed Martin and Babcock International under a Private Finance Initiative contract for the UK's Ministry of Defence.

Embraer delivers the first two E195s to Tianjin Airlines

Embraer announced that it delivered the first two E195 jets to Tianjin Airlines, the launch customer of this aircraft model in China. These two aircraft are part of the sales agreement Tianjin Airlines signed with Embraer in 2014 for 20 E195 and 20 E190 E2 jets, during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Brazil.

“China’s regional aviation industry has just taken off and will be the most robust in the world in the next decade,” said Paulo Cesar Silva, President & CEO, Embraer Commercial Aviation. “Embraer is glad to engage in this transformation and improve connectivity with our regional aircraft. We also hope the incoming E195 aircraft will help optimize our customer’s fleet structure and create more value for Tianjin Airlines.”

Guan Dongyuan, Senior Vice President of Embraer and President of Embraer China, said: “Tianjin Airlines is not only Embraer’s largest customer in the Asia-Pacific region but also our first Authorized Service Center in China. The notable achievements Tianjin Airlines has made demonstrate the advantages of Embraer commercial aircraft. Embraer China will use this opportunity to further deepen the cooperation with Tianjin Airlines, offering our reliable, fuel-efficient products, as well as our most devoted customer support and services.”

Currently, Tianjin Airlines operates the largest Embraer E190 fleet (45 aircraft) in China, mainly serving secondary trunk lines and regional lines.

Du Xiaoping, President of Tianjin Airlines, said the incoming E195 fleet will play a strategic role to the company’s development. “We are very satisfied with the current E190 fleet we are operating and we believe the new E195 fleet, with more seats and equally excellent operational economics, will allow us to meet the surging demands of air travel in China and help achieve our development goals.”

To date, Embraer Commercial Aviation has achieved an 80% share of the Chinese regional aviation market. Currently, Embraer has 224 firm orders in China, including 188 firm order (21 aircraft are pending government approval) for commercial jets, 130 of which have been delivered.

Embraer Commercial Aviation

Embraer is the world’s leading manufacturer of commercial jets that seat up to 130 passengers. Nearly 900 aircraft from the 37, 44 and 50-seat ERJ 145 family of regional jets have been delivered to airlines since their introduction in 1996. The E-Jet family includes four larger aircraft that have between 70 and 130 seats. The E170, E175, E190 and E195 set the standard in their category with their advanced engineering, high degree of efficiency, spacious, ergonomic cabins with two-by-two seating, and attractive operating economics. Since the E-Jets entered revenue service in 2004, Embraer has received 1,700 firm orders for this aircraft family. More than 1,200 have been delivered.

In 2013, Embraer launched the E-Jets E2, the second generation of its E-Jets family of commercial aircraft comprised of three new aircraft – E175-E2, E190-E2, E195-E2 – seating from 70 to 130 passengers. The E190-E2 is expected to enter service in the first half of 2018. The E195-E2 is slated to enter service in 2019 and the E175-E2 in 2020

Sames company, a subsidiary of French aerospace group Safran opened its fifth plant in the state and announced the construction of the sixth with an investment of 74 million dollars.

The CEO of Safran, Philippe Petitcolin reported that the plant commissioning Thursday is the tenth in the country, with an investment of 40 million dollars.

He announced that the sixth plant in Queretaro will produce blades for the new generation LEAP engine used by single-aisle aircraft such as Airbus A320neo, Boeing 737MAX and Comac C919, used by commercial airlines.

Safran is the largest investor in the Mexican aerospace industry and its largest employer with nearly six thousand nationwide, he said.

The dynamism of the Mexican economy, coupled with the existence of highly skilled workforce, enables us to provide closer support to our airline customers operating in the Americas, better meeting their expectations in this highly competitive market. "

On behalf of the federal government, Francisco González, director of Proméxico recalled that the Mexican aerospace industry went from producing zero at the beginning of this century to export six thousand 300 million dollars in 2014.

In addition there are currently 300 companies in the industry, who had six in 2005, which employ 40,000 people. Growth is no coincidence, he said, because it is due to the coordination of the private sector, government and academia.

In turn, Governor Francisco Dominguez Servién recalled that Querétaro is the fifth destination for international investment to the field of aeronautics.

The plant opened this Thursday called SAMES Rep, is dedicated to repair parts of the CFM56 engine, developed and produced by CFM International, a joint venture between Snecma (Safran) and General Electric.

This engine equips the propulsion of commercial aircraft Airbus A320 and Boeing 737, including more than 120 commercial single-aisle airplanes such as those used by Aeromexico and Interjet currently in operation. The plant will increase from 75 employees in 2016 to more than 150 when production reaches its peak in 2021.

The multinational company of French origin Safran spent 20 years in Mexico, has 10 centers dedicated to aeronáutuca Industry and Security. Its 11 subsidiaries in Mexico design, develop, produce and market engines for military and civil aircraft, as well as satellites and launch vehicles.

Embraer Bags a Long-Awaited Order
The Brazilian jet maker is closer than ever to ensuring steady production levels as it changes over to its next-generation models.

On Tuesday, Alaska Air (

to order 30 regional jets, and Embraer was the runaway favorite to win its business. Nevertheless, nailing down this deal is an important step as Embraer looks to keep production on an upward trajectory as it begins the transition to its next-generation E2 models.

Alaska bets on regional jets
Alaska's new regional jet order has two main purposes. First, 15 of the company's Bombardier Q400 turboprops have leases expiring in 2018.

Embraer's E-Jets are known for being extremely comfortable, especially by comparison to the relatively cramped Q400 turboprop. With competition from Delta Air Lines mounting in Seattle, Alaska doesn't want to offer an inferior passenger experience. Thus, rather than extending the 15 expiring Q400 leases, those planes will be replaced with E175s.

Second, Alaska sees a lot of growth opportunities on "long-and-thin" routes that can't support mainline-sized planes. (At least not yet.) Alaska has used E175s from contract partnerSkyWest to open new routes like Seattle-Milwaukee, a 1,700-mile route that wouldn't have been viable for Alaska with any other plane.
