Well up and untill now we haven't seen any specific milititary use of any of the south sea islands. Wether in the Paracels or in the Spratly's. And I dare to say it would be against China's political interest to do so. And trust me, any nation with such a lengthy history on international relations and diplomacy is unlikely to do so.
Furthermore such small and remote islands are, from a military point of view, extremely vulnerable.

frigates (054a's) destroyers (be it 052 or 051), Zubr's and PLA marines are quite enough a deterrent as it is against any of the local bully's.
