whats going on with all these fake news threads?? can someone fill me in on whats going on.. have we been duped by Indianfighter, Arjun, jatt and Sidarth?? who's doing what? :confused:

PTG, nothing is going on. Just requesting that members LINK news stories with ACTUAL URLs rather than links of their friends and tom and jerry websites that are run by internet forum trolls. This is mainly problem with Indian and Pakistani related sites. Recently, cloning Pakistani and Indian defence sites have been a hobby for some young teenagers from both countries. Every other week you see another India or Pakistan defence site which are basically clones of other defence sites in one way or the other

Ok webmaster, thanks for the update. I hope people in the future try to keep this site more original and constructive. Just to let u know, Im in Pakistan too:) but would never think of doing such a thing! anyhow, the've been warned and soo I too know will keep an eye on them and report anything suspect to u guys as well(the more eyes the better!)

I am sorry that I did not know prior to this incident that the website whose url that I gave is portraying news items from other news agencies as its own. I also did not know about the spamming experienced by sinodefence due to that website.

It must also not be inferred that I am a member or a representative or a sympathiser of that website. I did not know about its credentials at all


Thus I apologise for the inconvenience experierenced by sinodefence by my inadvertant actions.

Besides, the webmaster must know that all Hindus are not heretics and all heretics are not Hindus just as all terrorists are not Islamic or all Muslims not terrorists. I hope that the choice of words should have been stricter and intense but not one as to demean a community of people.

IndianFighter, appreciate you for understanding the issue and I was not talking about all hindus or muslims. I was only refering to ONE particular hindu, who owns that website. That does not mean all hindus or musilms share that charactristic. :) Let's not get into this debate as it has its own sensitive parts.

The following is a very interesting story on the development of the FBW system of the LCA.

PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS AT THE FIRST CONVOCATION OF THE DEFENCE INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

Following is the text of the President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s address at the first convocation of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology in Pune on Thursday, June 08, 2006:

Technology denial and management Challenge: LCA

In the year 1992, LCA team decided to go for Digital-Fly-by-Wire Control System (FCS) for the Combat Aircraft as it is an unstable aircraft. At that time, the country did not have the experience in developing FCS. The only two countries who had the experience were France and US. The French company (Dassault System) had expertise in Hybrid systems whereas our need was an all Digital-Fly-by-Wire. Hence, it was thought appropriate to have a US partner who has the capability in design, development and integration of FCS on fighter aircraft. There were three candidates, LMCS, USA; Lear Astronics and Bendix. Finally, we chose LMCS for the contract since they had the experience in designing FCS for F-16 Aircraft. Joint Team for design and development of the FCS was formed with ADE (DRDO Lab) and LMCS. The work share between Indian team and LMCS team was identified. Evolution of the SRS (Software Requirement Specification) was the joint effort. The prototype flight control computer was to be done by ADE. Total system integration of FCS was the joint responsibility. Flight certification was to be provided by LMCS, USA.

The $40 million contract was progressing to meet the required schedule. Then as you all are aware, India became a nuclear weapon state in May 1998. As soon as this event occurred the American Government imposed technological and economic sanction. Due to the sanction, LMCS, USA broke the contract and retained all the Indian equipment, software and the technical information which were in their premises.

This was definitely a challenging mission for the Indian team. There was a crisis. Immediately, we had an urgent task team meeting with Directors and their team from ADA, NAL, ADE, CAIR, HAL, National Flight Test Center, Prof I.G. Sharma of IISc a renowned control system specialist, Prof T.K. Ghoshal of Jadavpur University, a digital control system expert and guidance and control specialists from DRDL and ISRO. We had a full day discussion on the methodology required to be followed through which we can successfully complete the development of digital fly by wire system and fly the LCA. The team, after prolonged deliberations gave a structured method by which the development can be completed and the system can be certified for flight trials. They also mentioned that they will support the programme in whatever capacity they have to work with the ADE and ADA teams.

Based on the recommendations of the specialists we immediately strengthened the ADE software team with additional ten experienced software engineers from ADA. ADA was given the responsibility of verification and validation of software. Integrated flight control system review committee was constituted with Director (ADE) as Chairman and PGD (ADA) as Co-chairman to support development and resolve all the conflicts arising between Control Law Team, Iron Bird, Software, Hardware and simulation. This team met once in a week and brought out all the issues arising in different work centers and solutions were found. In addition, Iron Bird (A test platform of Flight Control System) review team was formed with Project Director Flight Control System as Chairman with members from HAL, ADA, ADE, certification agency (CEMILAC) and Test Pilots from National Flight Test Center as Members. This team also met every week and resolved all the problems arising in the development and Test on Iron Bird. Any deviation in the PERT Chart or any difficulty, team members could directly bring the problem for discussion when I met them every alternate Saturday of the month. We also introduced participation of certification agency (CEMILAC) and inspection agency (CRI) in all these reviews. The aim was to see that any problem in any system is brought into focus at the earliest so that the solution can be found. In addition, we made it a point to have a special agenda in the monthly technical committee meeting on the development of integrated flight control system wherein Director (ADE), Director (NAL), Director (National Flight Test Center), General Manager (HAL) presented the progress and problems.

The confidence building took place by intensifying the tests. For example informal Iron Bird test was carried out over thousand hours and the formal Iron Bird test was conducted over hundred and fifty hours. Similarly, Pilot flew the LCA simulator for more than two thousand hours. Thus, what we missed from the foreign partner, we compensated by enhancing the design, critical design review and increasing the test time to ensure safe man rated design of the integrated flight control system. This gave the confidence to the user, the Air Force.

The entire team took the denial as a national challenge. They said if it is going to take three years we will do it in two years. If it is going to take twenty million dollars we will do it in ten million dollars. Our working hours was not eight hours. We will work round the clock and complete the task. That was the time I realized the power of Indian Scientific Community, and the power of our country. I realized that no country can dominate us by imposing technological sanction or economic sanction. The power of scientific team will defeat the denials of any nation.

Today I can proudly say that our scientists have designed, developed, tested, evaluated, and integrated the integrated flight control system in the LCA which has logged more than 500 trouble free flight sorties in four different aircrafts. Fifth LCA aircraft is getting ready and LSP (Limited Series Production) has already commenced.

Hyperplane project: DRDO on lookout for partners

HYDERABAD: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will look for partners from the private sector and other countries to develop the ambitious hyperplane project, estimated to cost Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 18,000 crores. { That is equivalent to $4 billion }

Besides, DRDO was also interested in private participation in the indigenous development of low altitude unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), small surveillance systems and aerostats.

He said the Services were looking for UAVs. The cost of an UAV ranges from Rs. 25 lakhs to over Rs. 1 crore, depending on the instruments on board. "Our industry has necessary infrastructure and technical skills to take up such projects," he added.

Level-playing field

Since a majority of defence equipment was imported, the objective was to produce it indigenously while providing a level-playing field for the private sector. "Industries in aerospace will be considered as major players for doing this," he observed. Formation of ASMA would help build a potent aerospace industry. ASMA had sought land for setting up an aeropark at Shamshabad where 40 to 50 major industries would be located.

W. Selva Murthy, Chief Controller R &D (life sciences and human resources), DRDO, in a lecture at the meeting gave an overview of the organisation's contribution to the Indian Air Force. He said to improve a pilot's efficiency, an aptitude battery test had been handed over to the force. DRDO had also developed flying overalls and anti-G suits for pilots.

Life support system

He said an integrated life support system with on-board oxygen generator was being developed for the light combat aircraft. Its demonstration was over. It would be integrated in future LCAs. Currently only the U.S., the U.K., France and Israel had such systems.

With G-induced loss of consciousness being one of the factors for aircraft accidents, he said DRDO was developing a smart vest which would activate the auto pilot by receiving signals from the physiological pattern.

Hyderabad, June 19 (UNI): In view of the growing importance of satellite network in the armed forces, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is planning to acquire 'military satellite' with the assistance of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Vice-Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal, Ajit Bhavanani, said on Sunday.

Addressing a programme of the 'Aero Space Manufacturers Association' organised by Aeronautical Society of India here, he said an exclusive military satellite would provide information, which was inevitable for defence forces to utilise modern weapons.

Air Marshal Bhavanani said air space power, particularly in the area of civil and military aviation, would lead to the growth of the country.

The IAF would acquire Air Borne Warning and Control System (AWACS) and Un-manned Air Vehicles (UAVs) from the DRDO at the earliest, he added.

AWACS prototype by 2007

BANGALORE: The Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS), being indigenously developed by the Centre for Air Borne Systems (CABS) here, will fly by 2010, and its prototype is expected next year, according to CABS Director K. Tamilmani.

In a talk on "Aerospace Technology and National Security" at the 29th Annual Science Festival, organised by the Bangalore Science Forum here on Friday, Dr. Tamilmani said developing AWACS was the most challenging task taken up by the DRDO and the Arakkonam setback had been left behind. {This refers to the accident in 1999, when the experimental AEW&C crashed killing 8 scientists on board}

He said procuring such an advanced defence system was both cumbersome and very expensive as a United States-made AWACS mounted on a Boeing would cost Rs. 1,600 crore. The DRDO had been entrusted with developing the systems.

Dr. Tamilmani said the future wars would be fought from space with extensive use of space technology where the AWACS would play a major role.....
The present day war was not fought between two countries but two groups of nations.

Defence capabilities of a high order were required to command respect in the world, he said.

India's defence-based aerospace industry had been making major strides in various fields such as multiple design, prototype development and testing. About 700 aircraft, both defence and civilian, were being manufactured in the country, including the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) to be inducted in the Indian Air Force in 2008, and Nishant.

The development and production of the Kaveri engine was in the final stages. The jet engines based on gas turbine technology would be fitted in the LCA in two years, he said.

The country had also taken major strides in the short range Trishul, with a range of 500 metres to nine km, and Akash, with a range of 25 km. Nag, the "fire and forget" missile, was in the final stages of evolution and its production would begin next year.

Under development was the Air Force version of BrahMos, the world's only supersonic missile,{only supersonic cruise missile} produced by the Indo-Russian joint venture BrahMos Corporation. The Army and naval versions were already inducted. A lighter version had to be made to be fitted on a fighter aircraft, as land or sea-based missile weighed 1.2 tonnes, he explained.
