Switzerland has signed a production contract for the Elbit Systems Hermes 900 unmanned air vehicle following selection of the type in June 2014.

Worth $200 million, the contract award from the Swiss Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) comes two months after the nation's parliament approved the purchase of six Hermes 900 UAVs – a vital precursor of any military deal in Switzerland.
The type will be delivered with a heavy fuel engine, which was a requirement of the original tender. It faced competition from the Israel Aerospace Industries Super Heron, a derivative of the company’s Heron UAV family that had been developed with a heavy fuel engine for the Swiss requirement.
It will replace the IAI/Ruag ADS 95 system, which is expected to be retired in 2020. Deliveries of the Hermes 900s are anticipated to be complete within four years.
“Switzerland is a very important market for Elbit Systems, and we are very proud of the DDPS’s decision to choose us as the supplier of the Hermes 900 HFE, a high-end and market-leading platform,” says Bezhalel Machlis, president and chief executive of Elbit Systems.
“The DDPS selection attests to our innovative and technological leadership in the area of UAS [unmanned air systems], supported by the maturity of our systems. We hope this project will pave the way for additional projects both in Switzerland and worldwide”.

In November it was announced that the Israeli air force’s Hermes 900 fleet had reached full operational capability.
The UAV performed hundreds of operational missions during 2014’s Protective Edge campaign over the Gaza Strip, but was subsequently grounded as work continued to fully integrate it into the service's inventory.
Brazil also operates the type, having flown it for surveillance during the football world cup in 2014 alongside its Hermes 450 UAVs.

Poland has received its final batch of Leopard 2 main battle tanks (MBTs) from Germany, it has been announced.
The MBTs, plus 220 additional vehicles, were purchased for EUR187 million (USD203 million) in November 2013 from ex-German Army stocks to equip the 34th Armoured Cavalry Brigade, based in Zagan.
Speaking to IHS Jane's , Captain Rafal Nowak from 34th Brigade said, "On 28 November we received the last tranche of Leopard 2A5 tanks. Now the brigade is fully equipped with 14 Leopard 2A4 and 105 newer 2A5 MBTs. We expect that all remaining vehicles, including trucks and Bergepanzer 2 armoured recovery vehicles, will be delivered to mid-2016."

Former German a very good cheap deal.
Replace PT-91 in this Brigade, he is better armored now 2 Brigades with Leopard 2 each have 2 Bat with 58 tanks, definitely PT-91 replace T-72M1 in others units.
They have a nice tank fleet.

A joint statement issued Friday by Romania and the U.S. said the "major military components of the Aegis Ashore Missile Defense System" in the southern town of Deveselu have been handed over to the U.S. Navy and U.S. European Command

"It is not, I repeat, not directed at Russia, nor does it have the capability to threaten Russia. We have explained this to Russia on numerous occasions." Said Hans G. Klemm, the U.S. ambassador to Romania.

"Between now and the summer, military operators will train and conduct exercises and additional testing, readying for a NATO Initial Operational Capability," said Vice Admiral James D. Syring, director of the Missile Defense Agency.

Last week the first intercept test of the Aegis Ashore missile defense test against a medium-range ballistic missile successfully took place at a base in Hawaii, Syring said.

I am very happy and also proud to see this happen.

Land-based AEGIS missile defense is something I proposed and predicted back in 2001 in my:

Now we see it happening in Romania and it is going to go in elsewhere.

Jeff, out of interest, do you know what kind of radar, or other off site sensors, the installation uses?
Quick google searches seem to indicate some kind of AN/SPY-1, D or B I suppose, are used. I feel like such a land based installation would be ideal to host an AMDR. Are a SPY-4 or -6 planned at any point in the future?
Furthermore, do AN/TPY-2 installations (THAAD related) in Turkey or Israel feed into that system?

Anyhow, a great new capability coming online here that hopefully expands in the future. And what a visionary you are, Jeff :)
