There are many possible reasons and trying to simplify the purchase of the Su-35s to only a single reason (such as "TVC") is not very conducive to good understanding.

We should view this purchase not only in terms of the capability the Su-35s bring -- because their capabilities are somewhat limited, given the price of buying them, especially in context of the current state of Chinese fighter aircraft (not to mention new fighters that will very soon enter frontline service such as J-10B/C and J-16) and their force multipliers such as AEW&C and EW/ECM planes.
Other reasons include demonstrating its willingness to cooperate with Russia on defence matters in a greater way, getting access to some recent Russian technology just to see what they've been up to (possibly including TVC, but also to have a look at other technologies such as radar, materials, etc), and also simply getting additional advanced Flankers to supplement SAC Flanker production.

In other words, there are probably a whole host of reasons which must be taken together to rationalize the Su-35 purchase, and they include geopolitical reasons as well as the capabilities that Su-35 bring, as well as possible interest in looking at certain Su-35 technologies as well. No single reason is likely to explain the purchase alone.
If this purchase of Su-35s occurred in the early 2000s then China could have gained a lot more from 24 Su-35s both in terms of capability and helping their own technological advancement, but now the benefits a mere 24 Su-35s can bring to the Chinese military aviation force and the industry in terms of technological advancement is far, far smaller.

I am not buying this !!

China bought 24 Su-35 for geopolitical reason? Then why isn't Russia buying weapons from China? China could sell advanced ships like LHA, LPD or even DDG. Russia bought 2 LHA from France but then rejected by France !!

I do not like this kind of relationship with Russia that they are on top and we are always treated like some thing less. I fu@king hate them with their complex ! Yet every time when they get into trouble like now. They come to us begging for help and ask for money !!

I never said "only" geopolitical reasons. I said geopolitical reasons, as well as defense/technology cooperation, as well as the increase in warfighting capability of the Su-35 simply by having additional flankers, and also due to having a look at recent Russian technological offerings. It is all those reasons together.

You have a few positions which you hold on the matter and also Sino-Russian relations overall, which you have yet to disclose. I feel like that is clouding your judgement.

This is already very off topic now, and you should also watch your language even if it is not directed towards anyone here.
I've already said my part, so I'm going to end it here. Feel free to send me a personal message if you truly want to discuss this further.

Two more perspectives...

We have seen the engine. I forget, what is the silver colored engine that we have seen in this picture? AL-31F or WS-10B?

The new geometry of the canopy is somewhat reminiscent of the F-35's... the previous prototypes were more reminiscent of F-22... I wonder what kind of design considerations made both CAC and Lockheed change to the newer geometry or if it just happened to be incidental.

Reminds me of J-10 canopy.

To admit, I really can't see a difference !!! ... looks more as if '2017' stands a bit higher on its feet, but a newly shaped canopy ?? Maybe I'm getting older, my eyes ...

The only difference I see, that the detonation chords are arranged differently.

The difference really is minor but it's there.
If one overlays the two cockpit canopies in imaging editing software it will make the difference more obvious.
Basically, it seems like there is more of a "peak" at the top of the canopy in 2017, at the part of the canopy immediately posterior to the canopy reinforcement band.
