Quickie

If you look at the large pic from #1581, it seems like there are some kind of radar or electronic equipments on the right side of the field facing that little carrier.:D
Oh okay. That explains it. There is a layer of a kind of reflective material on the field?

I know we have hardly hard any news on the Liaoning in recent months, but how combat ready would everyone rate her at present?

We are not talking about fighting a high intensity way against a adversary with advance weaponry. But jow feasible do people think it would be for the Liaoning to be deployed against an enemy with no air force and effectively no air defences to conduct high altitude bombing operations only?

As far as I can see, it should be perfectly feasible to send the Liaoning on such a minimal risk combat mission at very short notice, provided the J15s are integrated with PGMs. If they only have air to air weapons integrated so far, its going to be a non-starter, but assuming the J15s are PGM capable, I think the Liaoning could be deployed at fairly short notice if China chooses to do so.

The pilots chosen for J15 conversion are all some of the best pilots the PLA have, with plenty of experience and hours under their belt flying Flankers before they even saw a J15, so they should have minimal problems flying their J15s and using them to conduct strike operations.

What does everyone else think?

No need to rush carrier combat operations if they're not necessary.

Well, I don't think anyone would engage in military operations unless its absolutely necessary. ;)

I am asking mainly to see what strategic options Beijing would have if there was a Paris like attack in China and it is traced back to ISIS.

The fastest and strongest way to react would be to borrow parts of Iranian airbases for use by PLAAF, not sending an adolescent aircraft carrier.

Liaoning probably have around 20 J-15s on board right now if the big shrimps are correct. There should be no problem for operations against an enemy like the ISIS if needed.

But I don't think they can do high intensity and sustained bombing run right now with probably half of the J-15s pilots still relatively new to carrier opeartion. If I remember correctly, someone mention all carrier pilots usually can only do around 3 sorties max per day?

lonsliv at f y j s claimed the first image is the steam catapult test facility located at Shanghai and the second is the EMALS test site located beside the WuHan landbased carrier model.
Not sure if they are new (new for me at least).
