China won Turkey's missile defense competition

So what's the news on this one? Are they or are they not going to buy FD-2000???
Looks like they don't have a choice. They will eventually have to buy the FD-2000 with TOT as they required.

Turkey will likely end up choosing China's long-range missile system and complete a deal by the end of the year if US and European arms manufacturers continue to refuse amending their offers to meet Ankara's demands, reports Turkey's Daily Sabah.

In 2013, Turkey accepted a bid from the China Precision Machinery Export-Import Corporation (CPMIEC) for its first anti-missile system at a pricetag of US$3.4 billion, though the agreement is yet to be signed.

It is believed that Ankara wants to keep its options open with US and European arms dealers given concerns about possible compatibility problems between the Chinese system and NATO's, but none of the alternate firms appear to be particularly willing to alter their offers to match the requirements specified by Turkey, the report said.

It may be that the Turkish government originally want to drag the deal until Assad is gone, but the Syrian affairs don't looks like it's going to end soon, or even end the way the Turkish government wanted it to.

I think Turkey originally wanted to use the FD-2000 as a bargaining chip for superior U.S./European offers. Looks like it ended up backfiring.

I wonder if they'll scrap the deal altogether at this point.

They could but how can the FD-2000 be consider inferior to the US and European version when it was the only one with a 100% kill ratio during testing? That's the main part why Turkey chose China over the rest including TOT.

Performance isn't the only factor determining whether a weapon is purchased. You also have to account for geopolitical/corporate factors.

All of NATO's meddling in the Turkey FD2000 deal may have turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

Had the Turks went ahead with the deal without delay, intial units may well have been delivered already, in which case you could end up with the awkward (for China) situation of Turkey stationing Chinese missiles along is boarder aimed at Russian combat aircraft.

China now also has to account for Turkey and their possible support for certain extremist elements in China's west, and weigh that up as a geopolitical factor too.

Imagine the political fallout had a top of the line Su-34 been shot down...
