Glad that the skillful PLAAF pilot survived.
Bravo to the PLAAF pilot for delaying his bailout to avoid crashing into civilian areas.

I think the related news is here:

No J10A or J10AS has ever eqiuped with WS10 engines. They all using AL31F.
Btw, it's a J10AS crashed in that incidence.

It's the AL31F equipped J10B crashed in chengdu.

AL31F isn't that much safer, therefor effort needed to convert to WS10 engines.

According to the people in chinese fourm, this is a J-10A from Shenyang Military Region Air force XXX division XXX regiment. It can't be WS-10 because no J-10A/B in service using WS-10 engine right now. I think it looks kind of like WS-10 is because it was at night and the flashlight reflection makes it look more shiny. I'm just glad the pilot and civilians on the ground are okay. You can always build more jets but not lost of life.

That was exactly my point and I think I'm fully aware that so far no operational J-10 uses the WS-10. But if it was at CAC ... then maybe.

Anyway ...

If you look closely on the photos you can still see the so-called inner petals.

I think there is just too much obsession about WS-10 on J-10. The good news is obviously the pilots are safe.

AL-31FN has a tendency of loosing lubrication and ceasing up in mid air. Most J-10 crashes can be attributed to this issue.
