What you said doesn't negate the notion CCP stokes nationalism for its own purposes. I'm not sure why you and others have problems with that statement, since it's easy to Google examples from all governments to that effect. President Obama has done it, as have other Presidents and Prime Ministers all over the world. I hope none here is so irrational as to claim CCP is the lone exception to stoking nationalism for social or political purposes.
The issue is that "government stoking" is irrelevant in the essential matter that is "the deep mistrust between the two countries". There is no need for "stoking". What any politicians do is irrelevant. Bringing "stoking" in the whole debate just deflect the real question, making the matter of real and deep mistrust between two peoples looks like an artificial fabrication of politicians.
Take a look at my answer to the "number bloating" post, you will know why the matter is grassroots, not stoked by someone, therefor why it is irritating to many members here.

your words sound like similar to "holocaust denial". And it is precisely your kind of altitude among the Japanese politicians (to argue about numbers to whitewash the atrocity) that destroy any possible trust of the sincerity of the so-called apology. The number commonly accepted outside Japan is 20 million, let's say for a second that it is twice bloated, that is still 10 million. Tell me, what is the difference? Does killing 10 million makes it less of a crime?
It is a bad to commit crime, it is even worse of another magnitude to twist around numbers like snake.

And maybe from this, Blakestone can realize where there is no need for government stoking.
Taxiya, I think we're speaking from opposite sides of the same coin. But as TerranEmpire said, it's way OT, so let's just agree to disagree.

I don't really get what you mean. But I will stop here since I feel it is getting too long and carried away and closing to be cycling arguments.

I'm surprised that Jeff Head has not stepped in to look at this this or at the other thread. He is usually quite prompt and I hope he is OK.

Nope just flushing out the numbers.

The orignal number KTM claimed was 6 million in 1946. CCP in the 60's claimed it was around 10 million. Then it mushroomed into 20 million in the 80's and finally came to 35 million in the 90's.
I speculate there are two reasons for this sudden inflation that came 40 years after the war.
One being propaganda in which the numbers required to be bigger then the casualties during the cultrual revolution and the second which is more down to earth in which they compiled the numbers of indirect casualties adding in the people who died of famine.

btw, this is way off topic. This is a one off comment to stop this discussion on its track. Please don't look at this as a discussion starter, but rather a warning.

Onto your comments. It's pretty disgraceful that you are using cultural revolution and great leap forward to back up your claim you think numbers are lower than what CCP reports. It continues a typical denial line of using CCP's own atrocities to downplay IJA atrocities. The two are not related.

I don't know the exact number, but I know that a larger number of people around my age or older from Japanese occupied part of China know someone that was massacred by the Japanese soldiers. Do you think all these personal stories are CCP propoganda? That is to say nothing of all the people who were killed in the Nanjing massacre. When I visited there in 2006, they still did not allow Japanese business on their premise. It frankly offends me so much that many Japanese either continue to play down the magnitude of their genocide against Chinese people. This kind of attitude and behaviour might be acceptable on a Japanese forum, but it's not acceptable here. And your line of posting always push the boundaries in this direction of offensive contents with China. If you want to have productive conversations about Chinese military rather then please be respectful toward others in such posts and stay out of political stuff.

Anyway....back to the topic. Wow, this French sniper is good, BUT..U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle still holds the record for an actual kill at a little over one mile.;)

the world's long-distance shooting record after successfully hitting a target from over two miles away.

On August 22, a Warrant Officer Benjamin, the leader of the armored platoon in the 1st Regiment of Chasseurs d'Afrique, and his support team broke the world record for long-distance shooting after successfully hitting a target 2.29 miles (3695 meters) away.

This feat broke the previous, and still impressive, record of hitting a target from 2.11 miles (3400 meters) away.

According to a French military

, Benjamin and his team prepared for three years to break the world record. But it was not until a training in June 2014 that the team realized that a record-breaking shot was within their reach. During that month of training, the team managed to hit a target of 1.84 miles (2960 meters) in four out of seven attempted shots.

Following this success, the team continued to work with a goal of roughly 2.29 miles in mind. At such distances, a number of factors come into play that could influence the shot, such as atmospheric pressure and slight variations in wind speed.

To compensate, the team trained on the technical aspects of the shot and only practiced the actual shooting on a range once every two weeks.

The emphasis on technique and teamwork payed off. On August 22, at the range in Canjuers, Warrant Officer Benjamin scored his winning hit of 2.11 miles. Still, he believes that full credit does not just belong to him.

"These shots are feasible only with a team," he

The Beijing municipal government is preparing to upgrade public toilets in the city to integrate more functions.

The Beijing Environment Sanitation Engineering Group, which is responsible for the project, is collecting plans for its first model room, which will be finished by the end of this year in the suburban Fangshan District.

The company is considering the inclusion of Wi-Fi coverage, mobile and electric car charging stands, as well as ATMs and health check facilities. Meanwhile, more restrooms will be equipped with infant rooms and assistance facilities for seniors and the disabled. The company will also make public toilets a forefront for the testing of organic agricultural techniques and other green methods.

The company will stop collecting plans by November 6, and the bid result will be announced on November 16. Construction will start next year in Beijing's suburban districts and counties.
