Pakistan begins to be equipped with attack helicopters Bell AH-1Z Cobra

HcVL3ND.jpg

(Defensa.com) The Department of Defense (DoD) of the United States has just signed a contract for an amount of $ 581 million with Bell Helicopter would include the construction of the first attack helicopter AH-1Z, a fortnight required, by the government of Pakistan. The contract, announced by the DoD on August 26 and was awarded the previous day, includes the manufacture and delivery of 12 utility helicopters UH-1Y Venom's called Lot 15, 12 AH-1Z Viper Lot 19 additional UH-1Y Lot 13, and 21 kits of auxiliary fuel for the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the government of Pakistan.

Last April, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the agency that manages the DoD defense equipment sales to foreign countries and requests for authorizations which they are approved, announced that it had approved the request of Pakistan to acquire 15 AH-1Z helicopters and 1,000 Hellfire missiles. As the current ad the first official confirmation that it is starting to implement the requirement of Islamabad. While the notification does not say how many of the 15 helicopters have been signed at this stage, if reveals that 10% of the total, about 57.9 million dollars, the value of the contract would cover the cost of the first part of the Pakistani request. This suggests, according to Jane magazine, which is an initial agreement for the acquisition of the first two helicopters, to be followed by other agreements to acquire the remaining 13 AH-1Z, in addition to the mandatory procurement of spare parts and support cycle life. According to DoD, these helicopters will be delivered starting in late August 2018.

Original DSCA notification of the request for Pakistan, which also included the aforementioned 1,000 air-ground missile AGM-114 Hellfire II explained that the sale was authorized for Pakistan to improve its ability to conduct combat operations, both day and night, in areas of North Waziristan [NWA], the Federally Administered Tribal Areas [FATA], and other remote and mountainous areas, where terrorists based. Notification of the contract is the latest development in the continuing efforts of Pakistan to enhance its availability of essential attack helicopters. The acquisition of 15 AH-1Z first objective would enhance and eventually replace the current fleet of 32 AH-1F Cobra platforms, an earlier version of the now required, operating with the Pakistan Army for decades.

Likewise the Pakistani military have also assessed the attack helicopters CHAIG Chinese WZ-10, and notes that Islamabad would also be interested in incorporating the model of Mil Mi-28NE attack Russian.

Finally remember that the government in Islamabad is in full policy of diversifying the systems of defense and on 19 August it announced that it had signed an agreement with Russia for the purchase of four attack helicopters Mi-35, which follow additional contracts to purchase more helicopters of the latter model.
