Note as I predicted, it looks like India is stepping up to "drive" the FGFA, I believe the money issues and fire on 055 took a little of the "drive" out of PAK-FA in Russia, with them reducing their initial buy to 12 aircraft for a test and eval squadron in the short term?

which is good, I hated the PAK-FA "limbo" status, this is much to pretty of an airplane to end up on the back-burner, and perhaps the Indians will go for coatings and light "reshaping" to enhance stealth, along with "active cancellation"? but as Jeff says "we'll just have to wait and see?"

I rather expect this to "re-ignite" the Russian fire for this aircraft if it goes forward and does well as FGFA.

According to the latest schedule, T-50-5R should make the first flight of 22.08., Transfer OKB 06.09. OChK (wing parts) for T-50-7 should be transferred to Zhukovsky by 30.09. Meanwhile, during static testing of T-50-7 fuselage identified the need to strengthen the frame №23. Thus the timing of construction of T-50-6-2 significantly shifted. Now, the first flight will take place on October 5 and the transfer to OKB - 28 December. Such a large gap between these dates is due to the fact that the first plane that will have a fully applied RAM . T-50-8, respectively, shifts to 2016.

Back to bottling my Grenache

So bort 07 has cracking/structural issues at bulkhead 23, which should be in the aft fuselage? I'd be willing to bet it has something to do with the aft weapons bay? One of the reasons that on a fighter sized aircraft there is normally a central large bay through the heavier structure of the center fuse, where its ok to have some extra structure. As you move aft the fuselage thins in cross section and there is simply less room to hang heavy stuff like doors, actuators etc.

Now this is all conjecture on my part, the only clue being #23 which I would assume to be a bulk head/station?? My thoughts are that the integrity of the aft fuse is compromised when you break the surface tension of the monicoque skins by adding doors, attach points etc. Those bulk heads become smaller and you don't want a lot of weight aft or you have a truly unstable aircraft. Aft loading of "any" aircraft tends to make it much more prone to "spinning" and that spin will go flat immediately if there is significant weight aft of the cg, that why "stalls/spins" are prohibited in a C-172 with the aft seats occupied.

The aircraft is licensed in the normal category with the seats filled, and in the utility category with the back seats/luggage bay empty.

So this was discovered during "static testing", and it may not have cracking per se, maybe their was bending/twisting noted on the strain gauges, take all my observations at this stage as me thinking out loud? if my thinking turns out to be in error remind me to come back and I will update with a credit to whomever has offered an accurate assessment and thank-you in advance Komrade.

i thought that the FGFA will be a T 50 MKI, and not freshly designed fighter,
if it is then what is the Defence Minister talking about spending Rs 1500 crore spent on preliminary design of an already designed fighter

or perhaps it will be phase 2

Nearly Rs 1500 crore spent on preliminary design of Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft project: Government

In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said the preliminary design stage of the FGFA programme has been completed in June 2013 based on contract signed in December 2010 with the Russian side.

As per the Inter Governmental Agreement, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is the designated implementation organisation from Indian side. In turn, HAL is supported by DRDO, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and other Indian agencies.

The expenditure incurred so far on preliminary design stage of FGFA programme is Rs 1,483.15 crore," Parrikar said.

The next stage of development of FGFA will commence upon signing of the Research and Development contract.

As per the draft R&D contract, the delivery of FGFA to Indian Air Force has been envisaged to commence 94 months from the start of R&D contract.

"The contract has not been signed yet," Parrikar said.

On paper, Russia is getting India to fund the development of the export version of the PAKFA, as we know the Russians are not going to just sell the same version as their forces will be using on the international market.

But in reality, I am guessing that Russia is using that Indian money directly to help finance the development of their own PAKFA version first, and will then use what is left to modify it for the export market.

Bit of a rip-off for the Indians, but I guess that's par for the course with 5th gens, as that's kinda what's going on with the JSF as well, although the JSF doesn't have a separate export version.

So wolfie, while I agree with your assessment of the Russian/Indian partnership, in fact it mirrors my own assessment? to Equate the F-35 as a similar "shell game" is in-accurate to say the least, and dishonest at worst? in fact I will guarun-damn-tee you that some of our partners are getting a heck of a deal, and we are doing everything possible to drive the cost down not only for our own military, but for each of our partners. Some of our partners do in fact get defense subsidies.

I have stated many times that fifth gen is in fact "very expensive", I will also state for the record that there is little doubt that the F-35 is very close to the Raptor in L/O, and ahead of the Raptor in networking and situational awareness, that it is in fact coming "down" in price is a tribute to a lot of hard work, and looking under rocks for ways to trim the budget. Don't think for a minute that somebody is layering expenses on top of expenses, this whole project has been gone through with a fine tooth comb.

Out partners are getting the very same airplane the US military is getting, not some watered down? clone? or look alike.

T-50 PAK FA 5th Generation Jet Fighter’s Main Secret Revealed

Despite a number of technical details and specs about the Russian Sukhoi PAK FA (also known as the T-50) fighter jet being known to the general public, the main mystery surrounding the newest aircraft still remains to be unraveled.

It is with respect to what weapons the stealth fighter will carry.

In an exclusive interview with the Russian TV channel Zvezda, Radik Bariev, head of the Chkalov Flight-Test Center of the Defense Ministry, spilled the beans on the PAK FA’s weaponry.

While the regular Su-35 jet fighter has 12 mounting locations for bombs and missiles, the body of the T-50 – at first sight – has none.

"It does have weapons. Let people dream a bit and use their fantasy. It also has locations for mounting weapons. It has everything it needs, and even more," Bariev told Zvezda.

According to the Russian military, the weaponry is one of the most outstanding features of the newest aircraft, and thus it is still kept a secret.

The single-seat, twin-engine jet fighter — the first operational aircraft in Russian service to use stealth technology — is designed to be used to achieve air superiority and assist in ground attacks.

Besides its ability to fly at speeds well above Mach 2, the T-50 boasts other, even more important, features such as invisibility to radar, powerful weapons and high maneuverability.

The use of composite materials, innovative technologies, advanced avionics and engines ensure the T-50’s extremely low level of radar, optical and infrared visibility.

The T-50 also carries the upgraded BINS-SP2M inertial navigation system, that autonomously processes navigation and flight information, determines position and motion parameters in the absence of satellite navigation, and can integrate with GLONASS, Russia’s space-based satellite navigation system.

In December 2014, Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation announced that production of the fighter was ready to begin in 2016. Fifty-five PAK FA jets will be delivered to the Russian Air Force by 2020.

New T-50 prototype takes to the skies

Back to bottling my Grenache

are you sure its a new prototype .
because i find no chatter in the Russian forums.

infact i only find this from the insider
T-50-1 - mounted engines after modifications of the fuel system, will soon return to duty.
T-50-2 - 29.07. He returned to Zhukovsky.

if someone could translate that video it will be good,

i would like to know which prototype she is
