, with a sell-off of surplus land, barracks and equipment with the proceeds going to reinforce front-line capabilities. But what's up for sale - and how much will it cost to buy that tank you've always dreamed of having in the drive?

4loh92F.jpg

Guide price: £39,995 - Scimitar armoured reconnaissance vehicle. MoD Sales is offering a 195hp diesel-powered version of this light tank, although its 30mm cannon has been removed and replaced with a dummy barrel, meaning it won't be much use if you want to sort out disputes over parking spaces. However, in the event of a chemical or biological attack its forced air system means you can lock it down and remain safe. Foreign buyers will have to show a full export licence. Visit

if you fancy one.

Guide price £55,000 - Also available from Witham, a CVRT (Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance Tracked) Samaritan battlefield ambulance that's as new after a thorough reconditioning. With a crew of two and capable of carrying three stretchers or eight walking wounded and a medic, the Samaritan can hit 50mph on roads and has a range of about 450 miles. Only 50 were produced so it's a collector's item. Sadly, the vehicle's smoke dispensers will be removed before sale.

Price: Open to bids - HMS Walney is a Sandown Class minesweeper, used to locate and identify the underwater explosive devices. The 450-tonne vessel with a crew of 34 entered service in 1993 and was decommissioned in 2010. The 170ft vessel is currently in Portsmouth docks, and isn't going anywhere fast, having had her engines and most of her fittings removed. Built with a glass-reinforced plastic hull so as not to set off magnetic mines, her scrap value is lower than a conventionally constructed ship. Buyers should contact the MoD's Disposal Services Authority at [email protected] if they want to arrange a visit.

Price: £10, 250 - Companies are awash with examples of that stalwart of the British military, the Land Rover, complete in drab olive paint schemes. This right-hand drive, soft-top example is available from ex-mod.com, who promise that it 'runs and drives well, with plenty of power'.

Naval Today said:
Combined Task Force (CTF) 152, which operates in the Persian Gulf, successfully completes another Exercise Falcon Warrior.

Naval and Coast Guard vessels from Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States along with operational centres from the Gulf Cooperation Council worked together for the second time this year in this major exercise.

The major focus of this exercise was to work together in the demanding Gulf environment, sharing knowledge and skills, then to put them into practice by running a series of Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) exercises.

Expertise was on hand from the United States Coast Guard Advanced Interdiction Team and the Royal Marines currently embarked on HMS Duncan. Each exercise in the series focuses on a specific maritime capability like search and rescue or VBSS.

Participation in Falcon Warrior was higher than previous exercises and included a variety of national assets including, Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF) HMS Khalid which is a Royal Saudi Coast Guard vessel, UAE Navy ship Banyas and Tarif, the guided missile destroyer US Ship McFaul, United Kingdom guided missile destroyer HMS Duncan with embarked helicopter, US Navy patrol craft, USS Monsoon and US Coast Guard Cutter Wrangell.

What follows are eight pictures of and RAF intercept of a formation of Russian aircraft over the Baltic.

This occurred on July 24th, asRAF Typhoons from the 6th Squadron from RAF Lossiemouth, which are part of the QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) at Amari airbase, Estonia, were launched to intercept the approaching foramtion of Russian aircraft which then flew close to the Baltic States airspace.

The Typhoons snapped a number of pictures of the twelve Russian aircraft which indluded:

4 x SU-24 Fullback Strike aircraft
4 x Mig-31 Foxhound interceptors
2 x AN-26 Curl Transports

SU-34 Fullback? :)

These seem to adopt the SU-35S style camo with the darker top half, too? Looks better, though the -35s I thought were going away from that. Also MiG-31s as fighter escort. Kind of. Above all that's most likely a navigation exercise and to show they actually refurbished some of their Foxhounds and use them.

Yes...I agree...and to show that the Bear is still there and capable of mounting strong air capabilities in its own back yard.

Having said that...it also has to gall Putin and many older Russians that RAF and NATO fighters are rising from places like Estonia, Poland, and other former satellite countries to intercept these Russian flights.

The NATO military could not have pushed into these countries and established this condition with 40 full divisions this without it turning nuclear...but an economic collapse and the will of the people in those countries allowed it to happen without a war.

Russian options to enter the Baltic sea have narrowed a lot. And I guess some 25 years ago it would have been very difficult for NATO forces to establish any kind of control there with all the soviet airbases, naval basel, and costal missile batteries along the southern and eastern cost. Now the situation seems almost completely reversed.
