IMO we should simply stop this stupid discussion, since everyone with à slightest Bit of common-sense or who knows the background of the FC-1/JF-17 program is well aware that even if initiated on a J-7-based design it evolved into à completely indigenous Design .... It now has as many Common parts with à J-7 like the Tejac, the t50 or Even a Raptor.

Amen Deino!

And I will add this, simply suing your words but putting the following emphasis to it:

We should simply stop this stupid discussion.

Take such stuff to the "Ask anything Threads," at best.

But what else can one find common between Mig-21 & JF-17?

Both are light fighters, relatively inexpensive and simple to maintain, with simpler avionics compared to their potential rivals . Both are designed to be "people's fighters ", i.e. to tackle against heavier and much more expensive planes (David vs Goliath thing) . Finally, JF-17 would want to replace all those Mig-21s and J-7s in Third World countries .

Looks like JF-17 is carrying some kind of pod but it does not look like a self protection pod or a targeting pod

But I thought that any pods would be fitted to block III so it's great to see pods on block II

Let's hope we can see some targeting pods on too

Adding pods really increases the lethality of the aircraft

Looks like an IRST pod like the Lockheed Legion.
It does but it's not as rounded as the Lockheed Legion one at the front (I am talking about the 2nd image).

Here's the image of the Legion pod for comparison.

Sorry to disappoint Your high expectations, but this pod is only a camera pod used by several types - including J-10, JF-1, J-11 ... - when they are used as chase-planes.

No disappointment Deino, in fact still good

It means they are video taping and using it for either pictures or videos

Interesting, I wonder if they can use it for recon or surveillance

This brings more questions, can they data link these videos in real to other aircraft or ground stations, could they provide real time recon over target

Interesting development

Jamming and targeting pods will be block III as expected still
