China's overland Silk Road and Maritime Silk Road Thread

The 1962 Sino-India war continues to poison the goodwill between India and China, and that's too bad. For thousands of years, China and India enjoyed peace, trade, and cultural exchanges that greatly enriched the Chinese civilization. Recent improvements in Indian economy and military procurements can, in the long run, have positive influences on the two countries as India feels less vulnerable and Beijing's friendly assurances would sound less hollow (because New Delhi could take care of itself militarily) . India is a great civilization, and it is also a reemerging great power. China should stop looking down on it.

By China, I meant the general public and not the government. Strike up conversations in China vis-a-vis India, and it's clear a great number of Chinese have low opinions of India.

I have never read or heard of anyone in China looking down on India. If you focus on comparing the two countries then that inherently skews towards a competitive tone. Even when it comes to that I have heard both official and personal admiration by China/Chinese of India/Indians at how much better India/Indians have continued to embrace their culture and heritage in their lives from clothing to music to religion. That living confidence and faith India and Indians have in their own culture and heritage is something I also think a lot of Chinese and China can stand to learn from and hopefully rediscover within themselves. I am not as familiar with the feelings on the Indian side though I suspect the lingering effects of British colonialism probably leaves a segment of the Indian population particularly susceptible to Western prejudice and propaganda against China/Chinese.

What the reasons you would go to China to study medical ?

well there are only very few medical colleges in India like AIIMS, or Manipal that can match the infrastructure of Wenzhou medical univ.
(certainly not the COMEDK colleges or GMC , for which i wrote the entrance exams)

i qualified the entrance exams for COMEDK,
but later i started hearing these,

apparently , these colleges have ragging issues.
i have heard that the professors rarely attend cases that they are supposed to teach .
and apparently according to some students the teachers try fail them purposely until you bribe them!

and you can add my temptation to see a foreign country .

it was mom who gave the greatest resistance for my foreign education,
she didn't want send her only child so far away.

13,578 students studying as of MAY 25, 2015, according to economic times.

Hey Aksha, that is a great honor and a testament of your own abilities.

Congratulations to you!

I can understand your Mom and maybe other family members not wanting to see you go so far away...but just let her know that this will put you in a position to take care of her when she is old.

Best of luck to you and keep us appraised of how you do. Sounds like real soon you are going to be very busy.

What path did you take to gain entrance into a Chinese medical university, from (I assume) India? Did you have to do an undergraduate degree in India first, or do you do a year of papers and they assess your grades, or do you get in straight from high school?

In NZ the way I got in was via doing a first year of various biomedical science related papers and the university chooses the top percentile of students (like an A to A+ average) for interview... and then of those students who get an interview, a fraction actually enter the medical programme.

for foreign students, i am told that the their method of selection varies from country to country

for indian students
they have a cut off percent of 80% each in physics , chemistry and english. in the 12th std.
and 85% each in botany and zoology. in the 12th std.

out of all the students who have applied, the guys who have the highest percentages are selected..

i am doing my unergraduate now.

Will you be getting your MD or MS at Wehzhou College of Medicine? from what I understand, the Chinese medical school system is sifinificantly different from that in the US. Whereas students have to finish 4-year undergraduate with a BS/BA in science/engineering degrees (like biology, chemistry or physics) and then another 4-year medical school to get an MD at medical schools in the US, Chinese students go to medical schools straight from high school and spend 6 years to get some kind of Bachelor's deg in medicine. At that point, they can go out and practice medicine if they want to. They can also continue their post-graduate education to get Master's and/or PhD. It is still very confusing to me how their system works...
