MH370: Location of found debris consistent with modelling, says Australia

PETALING JAYA: Australia says the location of a piece of wreckage found on La Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean near Madagascar, is consistent with modelling that the flight of Malaysia Airlines MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean.

"In the event that the wreckage is identified as being from MH 370 on La Reunion Island, it would be consistent with other analysis and modelling that the resting place of the aircraft is in the southern Indian Ocean," said Australia's Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC) in a statement Thursday.

"The debris is being examined by experts to determine its origin. Malaysia is responsible for the investigation and is managing this examination with the assistance of Boeing, the BEA (Bureau d'Enquêtes et d'Analyses pour la Sécurité de l'Aviation Civile), the National Transportation Safety Bureau (US) and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau," it said.
The JACC also said any new evidence found would be used to further inform and refine ongoing search efforts.

Reunion is a French island located in the Indian Ocean, about 175 km southwest of nearest island Mauritius and over 600km from Madagascar, off the east coast of Africa

Just thinking out loud here but assumed that it really came from MH370 how will that change anything? As I'm not one of those tin foil hat types I've always assumed the plane crashed.

I'm not one to believe in bermuda triangle or some other conspiracies where the plane had a planned landing somewhere. Thos nutcases IMHO will still stick to those theories short of actually finding the actual wreckage.

There will be serial numbers on these parts. If they match those parts built into MH370, then it will prove that it is actual wreckage.

All of those theories will simply wash away for anyone who is objective and rational..

Now...there are those who will simply say that someone took the time to manufacture or make parts with the appropriate serial numbers and then planted them either on Reunion Island or just off shore so they would wash up. Such people will never be convinced no matter what..

You always have some like that. To this day there are those who will swear until their final breath that the moon landings were all faked and will insist on it to their dying breath.

But the vast majority of rational people who may have harbored some thought that the aircraft was hijacked and landed somewhere else for later use as a terror attack or some such will be convinced with the actual finding of serial numbered parts belonging to MH370.

What it will do Kwai is give us a back-track to narrow the search area, possibly even finding more wreckage. It will give some the "closure" they need, for others it will bring the sorrow and grief back to the surface?

So it does bring us answers, even as it opens more doors to more questions, very sad, but I wouldn't be surprised once things flesh out and they can def state it is from 370, once they pinpoint the possible accident site, there may be those who desire to have a memorial service on that very lonely stretch of water, kind of a burial at sea?

Wasn't there a book written about the plane being hijacked to be used for such a purpose as you suggested Jeff.

perhaps the author should return the money he made from.the sales.

Well, people are free to write what they will. If they can find someone to publish it...or if they publish themselves...they are also free to do that.

Then people have the freedom to buy or not buy the book. I have no idea who wrote it...or how many copies it may have sold.

Clearly, whomever it was that wrote such a book was theorizing and speculating. I doubt seriously that it was represented as "fact."

I also doubt very seriously they will give back any of the proceeds.
