On the subject of large cutters... over on CDF hmmvw says that the MSA is going to get its own 10,000k ton cutter, designed by 701 institute (of CSIC, who design the military ships of the navy for shipyards) so it might possibly be derived or at least related to the 055... most likely also to be built at JN.

What purpose could China have comparable with the escort of ships carrying nuclear waste to England and Plutonium back?
China is opening up huge trade with Africa, South America, and other distant places.

They have tremendous amounts of energy based products, and many, many other products that will be depending on the SLOCs to reach China.

Having a couple of long endurance, long range, large cutters like this will be very valuable in patrolling and safe guarding those SLOCs for anti-piracy and other missions. They will also be very useful in any humanitarian needs, or if needed to assist Chinese nationals abroad. To be able to do this with such a vessel and relieve naval vessels from it would also be valuable.

Those uses, applied to any economic, Chinese citizens, or humanitarian effort makes these cutters very useful for China in any long distance, potentially long duration scenario that is not necessarily a military one.

When sending a ship to foreign country for evacuation of citizens or disaster assistance, a civilian agency ship is better choice than a armed to teeth war ship. Some countries could be quite sensitive to foreign navy ships.

During the few days after the Indonesian Tsunami disaster, the Indonesian expressed their wish that foreign navy ships should leave their waters ASAP after giving assistance even though these ships were there to help them!

Also, during a ASEAN disaster relief exercise in Brunei one or two years ago, the Sultan of Brunei only boarded a hospital ship from PLAN, he did not set foot on any armed navy ships from other participant countries.

If there is an substance to that rumor, then it will be interesting to see if the MSA ship gets built first, a way to real world test the 055 hull design and ramp up the shipyard to 055 production.

This was posted in CJDBY, a footage from Phoenix TV. Three 053H3G will be transferred to China Coast Guard. Speculation on CJDBY on the remaining 4th ship of this class will be upgraded with DDG 167's missiles system. Four 053H2G FFG were built.

Pls ignore the ships depicted in the video footage, these are 054A, the narratives is the news.

Also there are talks that CCG 2901 may not enter service as soon as expected due to shortage of able crew in China Coast Guards. I think this could be true because they are building so many CG ships in last 2 years, that experienced crew may be hard to find to man them all.

Any speculative reason to why the 4th ship receives DDG 167's missile systems? It stays commissioned within PLAN? Or there is a foreign buyer or recipient?

It is just a speculation, but then since they have removed the HQ-7 missiles system from DDG 167 (which is under major mid-life refit), it seen logical to replace the ineffective HQ-61 missiles on the 4th 053H2G and upgrade to the 053H3 configuration.

By phasing out the old HQ-61 missile system will eliminate the logistic problem on this lone system in PLAN service.

There is no news on whether this remaining ship will be sold or given away as gift.
