Terrorism against Chinese targets

I found a report by Channel News Asia. I don't think any protest by the Uighur should be done 3000 km away from their home town.
Chinese police kill three 'Xinjiang terrorists' in northeast city

BEIJING: Police in northeastern China on Monday (Jul 13) killed three knife-wielding "terrorists" from Xinjiang, the mainly Muslim region in the far west, who attacked officers, local authorities said.

One other assailant described as a 28-year-old woman was injured in Liaoning, said a notice posted on a verified provincial government social media account.

Shenyang, the Liaoning capital where the incident happened, is almost 3,000 kilometres from Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang, which has seen sporadic violence in recent years blamed by authorities on Islamist terrorists.

The restive region is home to most of China's 10 million Uighurs, a Turkic-speaking Muslim minority, who rights groups say face religious and cultural discrimination.

Indonesia jails Uighurs over bid to join IS group
13 Jul 2015 at 18:43

JAKARTA - An Indonesian court Monday jailed three members of China's Uighur minority for six years each after they were caught attempting to join an Islamic extremist group led by the country's most wanted militant.

The court heard that the men were arrested in September on the rugged central island of Sulawesi as they sought to meet militant Santoso, leader of a group known as the Eastern Indonesia Mujahideen.

The group, which hides out in the jungles in an area known as a militant hotbed, is considered one of the few remaining extremist outfits that pose a serious threat in Indonesia and has been accused of deadly attacks on police.

Santoso has also pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.

Presiding judge Kun Marioso told the North Jakarta district court that Ahmet Mahmut, 20, Altinci Bayram, 29, and Tuzer Abdul Basit, 23, had broken anti-terror laws and were guilty of an "evil conspiracy".

They also violated immigration laws by using fake Turkish passports, he said.

"The defendants came to Indonesia with the intention of joining Eastern Indonesia Mujahideen and carrying out acts of terror," he told the court.

"We sentence the defendants each to six years in prison and a fine of 100 million rupiah ($7,500)," he added.

The sentences were lighter than the seven years sought by prosecutors, as they had no previous convictions.

The men did not speak to reporters after the trial but their lawyer Asludin Hatjani said they were considering whether to appeal the sentence.

A fourth man, who was arrested with them and is facing similar charges, will be sentenced on July 29.

Indonesia is home to the world’s biggest Muslim population of about 225 million and has long struggled with Islamic extremism, but a successful crackdown over the past decade has largely dismantled the most dangerous networks.

The mostly Muslim Uighur minority come from the northwest region of Xinjiang, where the group say they face cultural and religious repression.

Many are believed to have fled the restive region in recent years, sometimes travelling through Southeast Asia in the hope of resettling in Turkey.

Hundreds of Uighurs were detained last year for illegally entering Thailand. The Uighurs claimed to be Turkish citizens and 181 have been allowed to go to Turkey with more than 100 others sent back to China last week.

China's security ministry said Saturday that the Uighurs repatriated by Thailand had been on their way to Turkey, Syria or Iraq "to join jihad", state media reported.

The deportations triggered condemnation from rights groups and protests in Turkey over China's treatment of Uighurs.

Surely couldn't be too hard to investigate how those passport got issued. Could Turkey be sponsoring terrorism?

*Cough* Syria *Cough*.

But of course, its never call terrorism when western countries or their allies sponsor it, its only call terrorism when it happens to western countries or the allies.

The western media have zero problems reporting an attack as a terrorists incident when someone chops someone's head off in France, but at best it needs quotation marks every damned time when knife wielding terrorists attack police in China, worst case, they call it a protest and take the wild and unsubstantiated claims of so called "rights groups" who openly and clearly has a fierce anti-China agenda at face value.

If these attacks had been carried out against western targets, every one of these so-called "rights groups" would have been investigated for links to terrorists and I would be amazed if they didn't find any connections.

Western reporters and some bloggers based in China used to subtly write of trampling of other minorities's human rights by the Han Chinese in their write-ups about their customs and traditions. Uninformed readers would then mistake the Han CCP as the oppressors.
I think this is a good opportunity to clarify that Han/Tang is not just a race, but an acquired identity.

Take me for example, from HK which would make me technically "nam man" category of barbarians in terms of 1000 BC Zhou cosmology. It is interesting thou, we in the south refer to ourselves as the tribe of Tang/Hua, and those from central china would refer to themselves as the tribe of Han. Tang of course, after the Coup of one of its generals became the Song, which last emperor died in Hong Kong.

Tang and Han is of course a Dynasty that claim to be a part of Zhong-Hua Culture; which is really like Roman citizenship, you can be Spanish and also Roman, like you can be you are ethnic korean but can be Hua-person.

Just to point out, Han or Tang is technically not an ethnicity as western terminology goes. The original Chinese is the people who lived between the yellow river and the Yangtze river; bordered by the east sea and the desert to the west. Everyone who say they are Han/Tang adopted the name later on.

A lawyer for three Uyghur men found guilty of trying to join an Indonesian terrorist group is appealing the verdict, BenarNews has learned.

The appeal was filed Wednesday after consultations with Turkish officials in Jakarta, according to defense attorney Asludin Hatjani.
“The embassy of Turkey sent staff to talk with the four defendants at Brimob Headquarters a day after the verdict. They agreed to appeal and I lodged the appeal yesterday after the talks,” Asludin told BenarNews on Thursday, referring to the police’s Mobile Brigade unit (Brimob).

“Currently we are waiting for a memorandum of appeal from the High Court.”

Turkey’s involvement corroborates that his clients are Turkish, he said.

“I can confirm they are citizens of Turkey, because their documents themselves are still recognized by the embassy and the police. Even the court itself stated their nationality is Turkish,” Asludin said.
During their trial at North Jakarta District Court, the men last month could not sing the Turkish national anthem or name its title when prosecutor Nana Riana challenged them to do so.

“How is it that a citizen doesn’t know the national anthem of his own country? I’m Indonesian. My national anthem is ‘Indonesia Raya,’” Nana said in court on June10.

The men’s citizenship could determine where they are sent once the trial is over, she later told BenarNews.

“Going forward, their citizenship status may influence the extradition agreement between Indonesian officials and the government of Turkey or China,” Nana said.

“If they are not Turkish citizens, possibly the court will destroy their passports.”

Earlier, the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) indicated that the four Uyghurs could be extradited to China after their trials.

The four are believed to have entered Indonesia using false Turkish passports via Malaysia. During an earlier court session they described taking a motorboat from Malaysia to Pekanbaru, Riau Province, on Sumatra island.

They flew to Jakarta, and visited Bogor and Bandung in Java before flying on to Makassar, in Sulawesi.

Shortly thereafter police arrested the four in Central Sulawesi province. Police said they were on their way to join the Eastern Indonesia Mujahideen (MIT), which is believed to be based in Poso regency in Central Sulawesi.

MIT is believed to have sworn allegiance to IS, and its leader Santoso – Indonesia’s most wanted terrorist – has welcomed foreign mujahideen to join the group, security officials say.

“We have no other intention but vacation,” Basit testified in court.
