Isn't it a good thing? Most of the planes not seeing actual combat means peace. And I thought that was a good thing. I wish all weapons on this planet will never see actual combat!

Of course that is wishful thinking. However, overwhelming majority of weapons in the world, including those developed and used in the West, have never seen actual combat. Just imagine, how many M-16's out of all the M-16's that the U.S. Army has have actually been used in actual combat? And unless there is another world war, it will stay that way.

Well, competition will be held in European part of Russia, so it quite far from China

More than 100 pilots flying 12 types of aircraft and helicopters will participate in the competition, which will be held at three airfields in the Ryazan, Bryansk, and Kaluga regions. The competition will feature crews of JH-7, Su-24M, Su-25, Su-27, Su-30SM, Su-34, MiG-29SMT, Il-76, and Tu-22M3 airplanes, as well as Ka-52, Mi-35, and Mi-8 helicopters, said Igor Klimov.

Quickie - The distance should be around 5,500km. The exercise area is about 150km to 250km north east of Ukraine border. And the take off point of JH-7 should be around Urumqi city in Xinjiang.

Google earth does not work with my computer's Win 8.1, I can't give exact distance. if you have google earth you can measure the estimated line distance more accurate.
