It resembles the Saab 35 Draken.
Yes, there is some overall resemblance.

But the air intake system, the cockpit, the fuselage airfoil design, the vertical stabilizer, dorsal fin, the frontal aspect cross section, etc, are all different.

And that's easy to understand. The 35 Draken was a aircraft that first flew in the 60s. The F-16XL first flew in 82.

Good comparison here:

...and a pic:

Shes a hot one, they used to fly by the farm on the Howard MOA at about 400 knots, they would be hauling but snuck up on you as all the sound came as they passed by, boom, roar, not supersonic but haulin the mail. They would be trying to work a firing solution on each other with the good old scissors maneuver.

BTW, for everyone's info...that climb out (and then rolls) seen in the video I posted were accomplished by Pakistan Air Force Test Pilot Murat Keles.

As you cans see from the video...he was definitely pretty charged about it.

I thought we did not have a thread for this amazing aircraft. It is the most prolific wetern aircraft since World War II. It first flew in 1974, was introduced into service in 1978, and is still in production now over 40 years later after many upgrades and modernizations.

Well over 4,500 have been produced.

I'll add this picture from Saturday, Spetember 12, 2015 when a flight of four F-16s over flew the stadium in College Statin Texas where the Texas A&M aggies were playing...and then went vertical.

Post any specific info and news about the F-16 here, and associated pictures and videos.

Can someone also give a description of what makes this a/c the F-16. Why would you want them instead of say F-18? It just looks like an odd airplane, with the single engine. Why do countries want this bird? What makes it a good airplane? What makes it still viable in this day and age?
