For CAS but can' t attack alone :

As I understand it the original news posted by Navyreco is that the Atlantique 2 now carries the MX-20 that is laser-designator equipped. So it should now be able to attack on it's own with LGBs?
Such an MPA, besides the EO sensor, will also carry EW and ELINT equipment I'm sure and will likely do well as an ISR asset. As such, it is now also hunter-killer capable in a relatively cheap platform, I suppose.

Only a cam...;)
Since July 2008, the Atlantic 2 received an additional bombardement6 capacity that allows them to take bunker and dropping four bombs GBU-12 Paveway II laser-guided. This capability has been implemented in the Serval operation for the Liberation of Mali during which Atlantic 2 fired several laser-guided bombs on terrorist positions. The ability to fire independently with the use of a laser designation pod is acquired only upon delivery of ATL2 renovated in 2017. Pending the laser light needed to guide the bomb is performed by another aircraft , a drone or a ground TACP (forward Air Controller)

French don' t have armed drones and for Africans large spaces, Mali etc... Atlantique 2 with her long range do very good job also her nickname flying frigate.

After 15 modernised on 22, the 7 others for recc/SAR missions, only a part damage but no gap as UK... !

The French Navy Flotilla 36F celebrated its 20th anniversary June 27, 2015 in Hyeres. This unit is the only Panther to operate the helicopter within the Navy.

Back on the history of this fleet is to travel to the Caribbean Kerguelen. Anti-piracy, fight against drug trafficking, sea rescue, fisheries patrols, the range of missions is broad for 36F.

However the Panther was originally acquired to perform mainly fight over missions of the surface from stealth frigate "La Fayette". With its radar, the Panther is the eye of the frigate capable of moving beyond the horizon. The Panther has also distinguished himself on board Frigates Anti Air "Cassard" Monitoring of Frigate "Floréal" or Frigates Air Defense "Forbin". The five permanent detachments weapon 36F multi boarding for the frigates based in Toulon and three permanent detachments affected Martinique and Réunion.

The standard 2 Panther is in service for two years. The integration of a FLIR ball, the link 11 and an AIS receiver have revolutionized the capabilities of the Panther. The sailors now expect the standard 3 that will implement the anti ship missile lightweight and have a self-protection system. But no timetable has been established when the development of this new standard.

Russia to sign final document on Mistral helicopter carriers within month — official

In the middle of June, a high-ranking official from the military and defense sphere told TASS that Russia still does not rule out the possibility that Mistral helicopter carriers will be delivered

ST. PETERSBURG, July 2. /TASS/. Russia plans within a month to sign the final document on the destiny of the Mistral class helicopter carriers it ordered in France, Russian presidential aide for military-technical cooperation Vladimir Kozhin told TASS on Thursday.

"Virtually all issues have already been settled. The final document will be signed in the short run," Kozhin said.

Answering a question on when the document signing will take place, he said: "Within a month." Kozhin earlier said that Russia is working on settling the issue with returning money for Mistrals.

The Ђ1.12-billion contract to build the Mistral amphibious assault ships for the Russian Navy was signed in June 2011. In case it is not implemented, France will have to pay Russia a penalty fee.

The first Mistral, the Vladivostok, was floated in October 2013. It was expected to be handed over to Russia by the French side in autumn 2014, but the handover did not take place due to the situation in Ukraine. The second Mistral, the Sevastopol, was to be delivered to Russia in October 2015, but the deal was suspended as well.

France suspended the delivery of Mistrals to Russia as part of a package of sanctions the European countries imposed on Moscow for what they claimed was its alleged role in destabilization of east Ukraine. Russia has constantly dismissed allegations that Moscow could in any way be involved in hostilities in Ukraine’s east. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Rogozin said on May 9 that France can’t make decisions on the sale of Mistral helicopter carriers without Russia’s consent as the Russian Federation has the end user certificate.

Previous reports suggested that the French side was ready to pay compensation to Russia if the helicopter carriers are not delivered. Moscow has repeatedly said that it would be satisfied with any option - either the ships or money. In early June, Kozhin said that he hoped that the situation with the Mistral warships would be resolved during the summer. Russia wants to have all expenses related to production of the ships to be covered, he said.

In the middle of June, a high-ranking official from the military and defense sphere told TASS that Russia still does not rule out the possibility that Mistral helicopter carriers will be delivered.

That's the money quote. from that, it looks more and more like Russia will not get the vessels.

France : The numbers of aircraft availability

The Court of Auditors had already pointed in a recent report, the availability of air force equipment is relatively small. On June 16, responding to a question from the member François Cornut-Gentille, the Department of Defense released the figures on the availability of aircraft of the Air Force. The hunters still decent, given the very high level of commitment, with an average availability of 40% goshawks. The Rafale, in particular, is interesting, from 45.6% in 2013 to almost 48% in 2014. The availability of transport aircraft is against more worrying (28.8% for C-130), except that of the Casa C235 (55.6%). The reasons are obviously very strong commitments of the French army in several theaters. Note the very high availability of the Reaper drone fleet, reaching 86.3%.

Helicopters
In response to another question from the member François Cornut-Gentille 30 June, the Ministry of Defence also released figures on the availability of rotary wings.First observation, between 2013 and 2014, the availability of all helicopters (air, sea, land combined) is generally declining: Gazelle pass an availability of 58-45%, the Tiger from 22 to 17% Cougar 22 to 14.5% or Puma / Super Puma from 40 to 34%. Only a few helicopters take their game, as Caracal stable at 35%, but above the NH90 TTH Caiman making a purchase of 38 to 53%. Thus external operations weigh heavily on the devices, while significant efforts are made on new machines. In terms of scheduled maintenance cost of materials, two types of helicopters are particularly spenders: the Puma, who with 40 years of service, see their costs soar to over 100 Meur and the Tigris, which is getting stronger exceed the 80 meur. Probably a combination of early life settings and important activities in operations. Maintenance of other helicopters is between 20 and 40 Meur per year, on average.

Like most people I guess, I was expecting a bit more for the FREDA...

Details on the FREDA: The Future Air-Defense FREMM Frigates of the French Navy
VMIcWuO.jpg

According to the recent update to the French Military Planning Law, the French Navy is set to receive two FREDA (frégate de défense aérienne or air defense frigate) by 2022. Not much information was available so far on the FREDA besides the fact they would be based on the DCNS FREMM (Aquitaine class), get a modified Thales Herakles radar and would likely deploy MBDA's ASTER 30 long range surface-to-air missiles. Navy Recognition contacted both DCNS and Thales to learn more.

Very interesting, maybe ask after for futur FFG FTI, hehe
NR: What will the configuration of the vertical launch system be ? 32x Sylver A50 or 16x Sylver A50 and 16x Sylver A70? Will the FREDA retain the capacity to launch Naval Cruise Missiles ? (Ed. note: A70 is the "strike length" VLS and the current Aquitaine class is fitted with 16x Sylver A50 for Aster 15 missiles and 16x Sylver A70 for Naval Cruise Missiles).
AB: The FREDA vessels will be configured with 4x A50 modules (for a capacity of 32x Aster missiles). The Naval Cruise Missile capacity is not expected for FREDA.
For the moment always i have read and say here.
Main mission AAW then SAM in number for protect especialy Charles De Gaulle and Mistral classes.

For radar it would be ideal as new AEGIS ships, 4 AESA one for 90° because
rotary radar have the disadvantage of not providing coverage over 360° permanently still good anyway but less.
Singapore Formidable FFG are modified for use eventually Aster-30 with Herakles.

In more during last years with budget problems and missiles cost several European Western ships don' t have as many missiles he could really carry by ex Horizon class planned for 64 SAM in VLS.
And have few reloads an average of a lot by ship, USN have same " problem " with SM-6 ( but no yet in FRP ) 100 by year about 1.5 CG/DDG equiped, new missiles very sophisticated / effective but also expensive.
