Simply gorgeous. Dubai eat your heart out with your Palm artificial islands.:D I bet China could construct one if they wanted to as well.

Wow, is that a string of Arabic straddling the palm tree?

Totally correct, especially in shallow reef in South China Sea .... lighthouse is extremly important, so China is doing a favour for everybody for freedom of navigation :p

Also lighthouse is a symbol of sovereignty. Vietnam protected when China started building lighthouses across Paracel Islands recently.

Now back to some pictures of the islands. These were taken early this month. In the last 3 weeks, there would have been further developments. Enjoy!
By the way, the dates at the bottom of the pics are in the format CCYY-MM-DD.

Chigua (Johnson South) Island. It's fast becoming a little village. That white building is estimated to have 9 floors.
View attachment 14212

Dongmen (Hughes) Island. Also has a massive new building adjacent to the original outpost.
View attachment 14213

Huayang (Cuateron) Island.
View attachment 14214

Nanxun (Gaven) Island.
View attachment 14215

View of Yongshu (Fiery Cross) Island. In this picture, the airstrip is almost complete.
View attachment 14216

Zhubi (Subi) Island. There could be another airstrip on this island.

Johnson South Reef/Island: Distances to Phillippines: 194 nm
Hughes Reef/Island: Distances to Phillippines: 187 nm
Cuarteron Reef/Island: Distances to Phillippines: 353 nm
Gaven Reef/Island: Distances to Phillippines: 264 nm
Fiery Cross Reef/Island: Distances to Phillippines: 266 nm
Subi Reef/Island: Distances to Phillippines: 238 nm

So only the Mischief Reef/Island is well within Phillippines' 200 nm EEZ. Hopefully China is really going to turn Mischief Reef/Island into a resort just like 'shen' has posted, so it will be less intimitating to Philippines.

More pictures. These were taken around 28-May-2015. Enjoy!

Meiji (Mischief) Island. Reclamation has started on the eastern fringe. Cloud covering the southern fringe.

Huayang (Cuateron) Island. The harbor is being developed. Lots of construction on the island.

Yongshu (Fiery Cross) Island. The airstrip is complete!

These artificial islands being built by the Chinese!..........Do we know how many of them are being built at the present time?
Their speed of construction is amazing, and the amount of preparation work for this must of been started quite sometime ago, maybe the turn of this century. What a huge effort that has obviously been put into this.
The budget must be quite astronomical.............i presume these islands projects have a separate budget, and are not included in the main armed forces budget?

These ventures are indeed very expensive, but I can only presume that China is doing this with a greater long-term return in thought. These islands will allow China to extend her maritime interests deep into the expanses of the SCS without any worry of overstretching military protection.

With all the noise about how China now has "mobile artillery" on apparently at least one of its reclaimed SCS islands, has there been any actual evidence made public? Photos or video? Exactly what kind of weapons are they, MRLs or AAAs?

No...............the details of the claimed evidence of military hardware has not been made public!

Those white buildings reminds me of citadels that people flock into when SHTF.
