MOSCOW, may 27 — RIA Novosti.
The defense Ministry plans to build two more Corvette project 20380 for the Pacific fleet (PF), now comes the negotiation of the contract, told RIA Novosti in the press service of the United shipbuilding Corporation (USC) on Wednesday
.
The first vessel of a series under construction in the far East called "Perfect", was launched in Komsomolsk-on-Amur on may 25.
"The defense Ministry is planning to build two corvettes at the Amur shipyard for PAC. The draft contract is under negotiation by the parties," — said the press service.
The corvettes will be built under the project 20380, "as the most reliable and proven," said the Agency interlocutor.
Ships project 20380 have a displacement of 2 thousand tons, a length of over 100 meters, maximum speed of 27 knots and a range of Autonomous navigation to 4 thousand miles.
Corvettes of this project are armed with anti-ship missiles "Uranus", anti-aircraft missile system "Redoubt", as well as anti-submarine "-NK" for torpedoing submarines.

This most likely means that Project 20835 corvettes would not be build (except 2 already laid down) ...

yes :)
an update (by the way, I told you about problems with engines for Projects 11356 & 22350, too: https://www.sinodefenceforum.com/russian-military-news-thread.t1545/page-194#post-341565 ): pretty official announcement

there would be no more Project 20385 ships after the first two "due to problems of substituting imports"
(in 2012, the plan was to build ten of these

... in other words they don't have powerful enough engines to propel them at required speed .

well, I recently followed a vivid discussion (I think it was under some Russian blog (bmpd.livejournal?), and it ended up in name-calling LOL so I won't give a link here) about what that speed would be ... one group of people called for a high speed (and thus Western engine(s)), the other called this a mistake as the Заря-МЭ sonar needs to be towed at 17 knots exactly (and wouldn't work properly at 18 knots or more of course) and then a helo would be sent to hunt a sub -- and such a speed of course could be achieved using current Russian engines ... now, I'm just repeating what I've read :)

well, I recently followed a vivid discussion (I think it was under some Russian blog (bmpd.livejournal?), and it ended up in name-calling LOL so I won't give a link here) about what that speed would be ... one group of people called for a high speed (and thus Western engine(s)), the other called this a mistake as the Заря-МЭ sonar needs to be towed at 17 knots exactly (and wouldn't work properly at 18 knots or more of course) and then a helo would be sent to hunt a sub -- and such a speed of course could be achieved using current Russian engines ... now, I'm just repeating what I've read :)

Let's put it like this : usual requirement for missile boats was to be able to go over 40 knots. Osa, Komar and Tarantul class all fulfill this requirement . Reason is obvious, you need to get in fast, fire missiles and run, because you don't have much chance in prolonged engagement with such tiny boat .

On the other hand , ASW corvettes and sub-chasers need enough speed , well, to chase subs :D If you intend to fight diesel-electric subs that doesn't need to be to great . On the other hand , Virginia class sub could go over 30 knots , LA class is slightly slower etc ... Therefore, usual Soviet ASW corvettes and light frigates like Grisha, Mirka or Petya class would go at least 30 knots if not faster .

Now , Project 20380 are multipurpose ships , and supposed to perform both functions . As such, their max speed of 27 knots is a bit low . Not terribly low, but it is a flaw . Project 20385 corvettes are somewhat bigger and would be slower with same engines . And that would be real problem, you have very well armed and relatively expensive vessels that cannot fulfill their function because they lack speed . I don't think Russians would want that, so they decided to go with less expensive and somewhat less capable Project 20380 ships .

are you sure it works this way in the Russian Navy now, I mean chasing with a ship ... why not launch a missile-torpedo (as

) and/or send a helo? ... but I don't know, am just asking

Usually you would get a contact with sonar , sonar buoy or whatever , but you would need to investigate and establish precise coordinates of that potential target . You could do that with helicopter but it would take time (helicopter needs to get ready for take off etc ... ) Also, I doubt each and every corvette would actually carry ASW helicopter . These are after all small ships. Therefore, usual tactics would be to get close at full speed and probably losing contact , then trying to reestablish it . Meanwhile, your helicopter would be ready for take-off . As for Medvedka and similar standoff weapons , Project 20830 ships don't have them, and as far as I know , neither Project 20835 ships . Instead, they are armed with Paket-NK torpedoes .

I will not believe this until I see it.

More huge pronouncements and predictions by such sources which invariably fall far short of ever materializing.

They haven't even modernized the 16 they have yet...and do not expect to be complete with that for several years.

Very, very unlikely that this will ever happen.
