A poodle is being forced by its owner to beg for money according to reports released on Friday.

The dog balances on its hind legs holding a sign that reads,"I'm hungry," with the wording in Chinese modified to add a monetary tone. Everyday between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., the animal follows its owner, who is likely a begger, to "work" outside a supermarket in Nanyang city, Henan province of central China.

The dog's pitiful look elicits pats on the head and, more importantly, money into the box on its side from customers heading in and out of the store. "The little dog makes even more (money) than I do," a nearby vender commented.

The "real" beggar, who appears to be in his 30s, sits in a chair not far away. Sometimes, the dog gets tired and needs a rest, settling on all fours instead. However, the shift in position means it does not attract as many donations, soliciting threats from the beggar who forces it to continue.

The public has since criticized the man for mistreating the dog.

LIMA, May 22 (Xinhua) -- China and Peru have agreed to conduct a feasibility study on a proposed transcontinental railway connecting Peru's Pacific coast with Brazil's Atlantic coast.

The two governments agreed on this during Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's official visit to Peru, a Latin American country which has a free trade pact with China and wishes to diversify its economic cooperation with China.

The Chinese side is interested in taking part in the potential project, which would benefit both countries as Latin America has an urgent need to upgrade its infrastructure and China wishes to export its industrial capacity and investment.

Li has just arrived in the Peruvian capital, which is the third leg of his four-nation tour to Latin America after Brazil and Colombia. He will also visit Chile.

Coins brought by the monks.
Monks at the Xingjue Temple, Shanghai asked to pay for 16 water heaters with 0.1 yuan coins in a mall recently.

“A monk had asked if they could pay for water heaters with 1-jiao (0.1 yuan) coins that afternoon, saying if yes they’d buy 16 water heaters, but if no they’d only buy one,” said Ms. Cai, manager of the appliance store.

The money was collected from pilgrims over the years, with a total number of 223, 840, weighing 716 kg. With the help of the local bank, the shop assistants have counted the coins continuously for 13 hours.

The monks said they were happy to be allowed to pay with coins. They had been rejected by several stores previously.
