APC or IFV

LOL...I agreed. Than again we might be putting a lot of pressure on that chassis and transmission. It's already carrying troops and equipment, not to mention it has the same hull as the Merkava tank.:)
Well considering the Merkeva already carries a full Tank turret with a 120mm gun space for infantry and crew.. I think they could do it.

Just curious...does the Namer troop carrier has the same engine as the Merkava Mk4? I like it...looks to be designed specifically for desert terrain heavily armored troop carrier or APC.
Wiki sais it carriers the same engine as the Mk3.

On the armament side, I guess the Namer right now is designed specificly for assymetric, urban ops like Gaza. So an autocannon is probably not high on the priority list. I guess they'd tather use the space for troops and supplies. Btw, I think the Namer has 60t as it is already. The elimination of the tank turret allowed for a lot of additional armor on the vehicle.
I still think 40mm smart grnades would do nicely.
For proper mechanized combat, which seems unlikly for the IDF at this time, that really would make one heck of an IFV, though.

While the russians came up with heavily upgunned IFVs after chechnya, I don't think that's the solution Israel wants to, or should, emulate for their current conflicts.

There should a designated heavy fire support vehicle for mechanized infantry (other than tanks). Utilizing the same chassis as the APC/IFV and incorporating a 50mm or 60mm auto-cannon and a 40mm grenade launcher plus some assorted ATGW if desired.

It not the stress on the vehicle, it’s the volume. A larger gun dictates a larger turret for the gun and ammunition and therefore less troops in the vehicle.

The T-15 only has one small door at the rear. No ramp
