So not just China but also Russia and India are trying for a qualitative 'sprint to parity' then? Of course with the exception of Russia, even if the others achieve qualitative parity they would still be significantly behind quantitatively.

This is a logical development since missile defense is making ballistic missiles obsolete there is no point in building more of those, a new delivery vehicle is needed. I don't know if this type of delivery vehicle is any more survivable against lasers as compared to missile-based missile defense.

I thought that's pretty old news. That aside they are just going to continue the testing and improvement. I think the next benchmark for China is Mach 20 for its Wu-14.



Also, I am always wondering why is China's Road Mobile ICBM vehicles looks so filmsy and doesn't look like its design for off-road? Compare to the Russian designed ICBM vehicles their tires are much bigger and threads are much more visible too (more grip for off-road tracks). The chasis of the truck also looks far more robust, with inverted canted windshield for rain protection.

I've never seen a Chinese and Russian TEL side by side for an exact comparison but the Chinese vehicles seem quite well designed to me - solid build quality from the images available. I would not consider them flimsy at any rate.

They are supposedly operating from mountainous & underground road networks along with the countries wider interconnecting road/highway system right? I would expect they will run just fine in the areas China intends to deploy them, including off-road. Siberia is a harsh and still very underdeveloped region so Russia has very unique issues to deal with in operating it's own TEL's in that environment.

HGV is supposed to "glide" at the edge of low Earth orbit which makes it nearly impossible to track, therefore very stealthy for long range radars. As for lasers these HGV can use materials to withstand heat or reflect it to become more robust. Plus laser weapons needs data from electronic tracking first before it could be of good use at all.

Is this new? It looks very grainy and old... Isn't DF-16 supposed to be the newest most accurate IRBM China has?
