Has there been any history of reliability problems with the Z-9? I have not heard of any.
The Harbin Z-9 has been produced in China since the early 1980s...first for the Army and then later, beginning in the 1990s for the Navy.
Seems like the design is very stable and mature so a debate about its reliability seems misplaced to me...unless there have been reliability issues before which I am unaware of.
Since these are new to Cameroon, I think it much more likely to be either related to conditions at the time, or pilot/training/experience related.

Jeff- questions of reliability was raised by the Cameroon news article, but I agree with your analysis on Z-9s being proven and reliable through time and use.

The crash in Cambodia was definitely blamed on the pilot. Someone took this video of the crash but only released days after the accident. The helicopter was taking off from flat ground (with ground effect?) and then flew over a big deep quarry. I think this took the helo out of ground effect and led to the crash.

A Chinese company will build the new Brazilian Antarctic base for nearly 100 million dollars
(Defensa.com) has officially published the award of the Command of the Navy for the construction of the new Brazilian Antarctic base to the Chinese company CEIEC amounting to 99.6 million dollars, announcement by Defense Minister Jaques Wagner .
The Chinese company made the lowest bid (99,662,426.45) versus other two who had a Finnish company for 104.8 million dollars and a group of Chilean and Brazilian companies valued at 110.4 million dollars.
The fact that this contract was originally bid only for Brazilian companies but desert was given. But the decision now announced will allow rebuilding scientific and military base called "Comandante Ferraz" which was destroyed by approximately 70% after it suffered a fire in 2012 that claimed the death of two officers of the Brazilian Navy.
They remained intact only shelters (isolated modules for emergencies), laboratories meteorology, chemistry and studies of the upper atmosphere, fuel tanks two processing modules freshwater, radio station and emergency helipad, and were sites that were isolated from the main structure.
