J-10A versus J-10B Differences

Where the heck did You find this image !???? It's a conceptual drawing I made together with a very good friend of mine - namely J.P. Santiago - why I met at first at the What-If-Forum, and who helped me for my very first published reports in the German "FliegerRevue" with several profiles.

This one is actually based on his J-10A and J-10S profile and was created on "Thuesday, ‎24. ‎March ‎2009, ‏‎17:33:12" modified by myself in preparation for the very first J-10B report. As far as I know we even made the first quite reliable J-10B report.

Altogether he made several different J-10-profiles including the white first prototype, the later ones 1003 to 1006, the pre-serials and the very first serial aircraft delivered to the 44. FD .... to admit I still miss that work with him, we later expanded for all the "Failed Chinese Fighters" in my book "Dragon's Wings".

J-10BS, tandem seat

Here I have to correct Your post. It is not a photoshoped image of an J-10AS + a J-10B but simply a CG, that was made by the almost famous CG-artist "Gaoshan" and came out even before the very first J-10B photo was published ...

I found it on a Chinese site some time ago and saved it. can't remember which one.

Should I put a credit on it now that I know whose it is? This is the first time I have posted it anywhere.

No problem my friend. I saw that it was not a J-10BS, but had no idea who made it. I figured I might be PS'ed, but as a CG, it is very good. Having it done before the first J-10B was completed explains a lot.

Thanks for the correction and the info. I knew you would straighten any inconsistencies out for us.

Question?

Are there any J-10BS flying? Do you know of a good pic of one?

No You surely do not need to give credit, but I think it's always interesting to know where a certain images comes from.

Regarding the J-10BS, there is so far none ... not sure why - most likely CAC or the PLAAF wanted to wait until the B is fully integrated - and I know only one psed image.

J-10B fighters sure look the part, but how they'd perform in actual combat is anyone's guess. Great looking machines, to be sure.

I think it is commonly agreed upon that the DSI inlet and drooped nose increased the plane's "sex-appeal".

4. Not as visible to the untrained eye, but the "B" has a new AESA radar. The nose cone for the Chinese aircraft usually differs in color for different radars.

About that color code for radars, I asked the same questions here on SDF some time ago, but knowledgeable folks told me it's just a myth .

But if there is new AESA radar, I would like to know some specs .

The "B" variant was initially equipped with a PESA radar, but switched to an active phased array radar once the jet hit production.
