well, I don't think China's long range SAMs are stationed in the area, so it makes sense they didn't get picked up by SAMs. As for PLAAF, the nearest regiment looks like a J-7 regiment, so I'm not sure about its readiness. There is the first J-10 regiment a little further away, but it would take a while for them to meet the Burmese plane. It doesn't take that long for a fighter jet to travel 100 km.

As you may know there is some anti government activities in the northern part of Myanmar.
I believe the Myanmar air force was targeting the guerrillas that had fled into Chinese borders to evade further assault from the Myanmar military.

Is there possibility that the Chinese gov't are supporting the Kokang rebels? Where does Kokang get their weapon from? The rebels flee in to Chinese border whenever the Myanmar gov't chase them. Is that the reason why Myanmar war plane flew into China and bomb?

This should be a good exercise for China to warm their hands up dealing with border issues 21st century style. China can tighten border security, dispatch more border guards, arrest armed militias, communicate with the Burmese, yet enforcing that Burmese military are not permitted to illegally enter Chinese territories anymore.

The problem is that many Chinese netizens seem to think not supporting the rebels in Burma are indicative of weakness. They're not considering the idea that overt Chinese action against the Burmese government may drive them towards the US even more. China would like to play a balancing game instead.

That said, in response to the killing of those civilians, I think the government and military do have the justification and need to act in a manner to ensure safety on their side of the border.

Chinese netizens aren't really known for quality opinions on issues involving national pride.
For all honesty, this is a very tragic event, but still a very small flamebait. Most importantly is not to overplay the issue and blow it up to something it shouldn't be.

Conflict in Myanmar with use of air power was going on for days now. In such situations, usual practice is to station some extra fighters (and SAMs) near conflict zone and to monitor activities across the border . 100 km is not large distance for jets, that is true, but neither is 200 or 300 . With lack of preparedness , enemy could do significant damage with surprise attack ( Pearl Harbor, opening day of Operation Barbarossa , Six-Day war etc ... )

Still none.

All Burma is doing is to shift blame to the rebels, claim that they didnt violate the border, and that their air-strikes are being coordinated with China's goverment.
And still, they blame China aiding the Kokang.

This is extremely weird behavior for someone who has violated the Chinese border multiple times just under a week and killed Chinese civilians.

And the Chinese FM and reaction is still toothless as ever. No matter how people here see the Chinese netizens - getting extremely angry is very well understandable.
