Very good analysis ... and like You describe indeed strange, why it is so "difficult" to develop a basic prop-driven trainer or a simple jet trainer, while there are already two fifth generation types being tested.

How many now ?
My numbers a little old about 2 years : PLAAF : 6, PLAN : 20


To admit it's not that simple: the PLAAf uses none since they operate the standard JL-9 within the 171. Brigade at the FTTC.

The PLANAF uses them at the Naval Training Base and addtionally a few more within the 5. Division.
Of this latest G-model I know so far only two confirmed aircraft both within the PLANAF.
