I wonder how many of these Turkeys are still flying? They originally had 79 aircraft.
Global Security indicated in its 2005 or 2006 report, I believe, that they still had 44 in flying condition at that time.

Since then, in Cooper, Tom and Liam Devlin's "Iranian Air Power Combat Aircraft" in January 2009, they stated that in 2009 Iran still had 44 operational.

Finally, Flight Global estimated that approximately 28 F-14s were still in service in Iran in their Flight Global publication of September 2014, the article "

First photo of first F-14AM ("Modernized"). IRIAF`s experts modernized this bird during its overhaul. Modernization program is covering structure life-extention, avionics and armament upgrade. Hundreds of hours were spent on upgrading this 37 years old interceptor. It was painted in edged three tone Asian Minor II camo pattern. Two new AA missiles has adapted with its fire control system, R-73E, AIM-54A+ "Fakkur", AIM-54A, AIM-7E-4 and AIM-9J.

IRIAF F-14AM ("Modernized") local variant painted in edged three-tone "Asia Minor II" camo pattern. Modernization claims consist of structural refurbishment, new ECM (electronic counter measures) system, new RWR (radar warning receiver), new INS (Inertial navigation system integrated with GPS), and Multifunction Liquid Crystal Displays for pilot and the WSO. Also the F-14AM can reportedly carry a wide range of US, Iranian, Chinese, and Russian Air-to-Air missiles, including R-73E, AIM-54A+ "Fakkur", AIM-54A, AIM-7E-4 and AIM-9J.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — With rockets roaring and guns blazing, more than a dozen swarming Iranian speedboats assaulted a replica of a U.S. aircraft carrier Wednesday during large-scale naval drills near the strategically vital entrance of the Persian Gulf.

"American aircraft carriers are very big ammunition depots housing a lot of missiles, rockets, torpedoes and everything else," the Guard's navy chief, Adm. Ali Fadavi, said on state television. A direct hit by a missile could set off a large secondary explosion, he added.

Fadavi last month boasted that his force is capable of sinking American aircraft carriers in the event of war. He previously called carriers easy targets and said Iran naturally wants to sink them.

The drill, named "Great Prophet 9," was held near the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world's oil passes. Iran's regular army carried out naval drills near the strait in December.

No offence to the Iranian military, but I do not believe that they would be able to get that close to an American Aircraft Carrier without losing the majority if not all of their attacking vessels.

The French have operated fixed wing aircraft off of large (and now nuclear) carriers in the modern era more than anyone else outside of the United States Navy.

They know what they are about and are very squared away...and wherever possible have very good, indigenous systems employed (like the Rafael for example), and then use good old American technology where they must (like the cats and the E-2C Hawkeye).
