You don't need full scale wind tunnel tests anymore. Some wind tunnels ( very expensive ones; perhaps we can start a thread on China's wind tunnels and other test infrastructure ) can vary the temperature as well as the air speed so that for a scale model both Mach Number and Reynolds Number can be equal to that of the full scale aircraft in flight. But for cruising flight of transport type aircraft and perhaps by now for more difficult cases computer simulation of the flow field around the aircraft can be very good indeed.

Someone do please start a China's Wind Tunnels thread!! I've read so much in piece and bits about China's gigantic wind tunnel groups for the last couple of years. I think I do need some cool-headed discussion on this subject and determine where China stands in such developmen.

I think they will modify the intake design for the "B" model once WS-15 is ready.

Personally, I believe that any engine change on J-20 before 2017-2018 is wishful thinking. From an engineering standpoint, you want to mitigate developmental risks during the design and testing phase as much and possible. A good way to do that is to elimiinate as many "variables" as possible. Introducing another engine (whether it be WS-10 or WS-15) this late in the stage presents a huge "variable" to the development process.
I believe that you.are spot on here, as the inlets were no doubt optimized for the AL-31s on 2011.

Pretty sure that the first batch of J-20s in production will not deviate from this design. Batch may begin as early as 2016-2017.

Partially, photographer's ego, partially his (c). I call it "Pinkov protection". Nothing more than that in this case.

Well it is covering up the part most interesting to me. So I guess we will just have to wait for the uncensored pictures.

If it is really just a Pinkov protection mark, it could be put anywhere on the plane, and could even be made bigger and perhaps semitransparent, like many other photos we see. Putting it up and sizing it exactly just covering the engine nacelles, which is a rather unnatural place to put his watermark on the picture to be honest, is just a little conspiracious for me.

Of course it could just be absolutely nothing, like you have said.
