I believe this is the illustration TE for your "free speech" in Russia! actually for the whole concept of freedom under any totalitarian regime.
Your post is pure political propaganda. Have you forgotten Mr Snowden ? Have you forgotten than Putin is democratically elected president, and has more support than for example Obama ? Have you forgotten US invasion on Afganistan and Iraq ?

And back on topic:
Ukraine's National Bank may get rid of hryvna
It seems like the National Bank of Ukraine, guided by Arseniy Yatseniuk’s self-styled government to the radiant future, has come to a decision to do away with the country's national currency hryvna. This is according to a private letter from an employee with Giesecke & Devrient, a Munich-based banknote printing firm, that has recently been leaked to the Web.

An interesting letter appeared in the Internet the other day, in which an employee of the German company Giesecke & Devrient warns their Ukrainian relative about the impending collapse of the Ukrainian financial system.
Translation:

"Dear Emma,

Mother and I are very worried about you. Is your family all right? How are the kids? Why are you staying away from Skype contacts? Here the media are saying awful things about the Ukraine, we don’t understand anything and the future is vague.

We know that you have a business there but please, for our sake, try to persuade your husband to come and stay with us in Munich at least for a short time. We can send the boys to a local school, fortunately Martha is still teaching, so we won’t have to worry about you. Let us know as soon as you make up your minds. Please, don’t play a waiting game.

In any case, be sure to get rid of hryvnas in cash and convert your bank accounts to euros because it looks like Yatseniuk will soon make the hryvna a useless slip of paper. We had an urgent commission at Giesecke & Devrient from the National Bank of Ukraine to develop a design for a new currency unit. It will have the same name, hryvna, but an absolutely different standard. Actually, it will imitate the euro. We are working at full speed because they want sketches of the notes in a week. I’m afraid that you’ll soon be able to send your current money to a museum.

Your Albert"

Incidentally, Giesecke & Devrient is a rather well-known company developing banknote designs and putting them into production.

This was not the end of it, of course. The woman’s husband appealed to Verkhovna Rada for explanations. Moreover, in addition to his e-mail letter the man posted sketches of new banknotes that his German relative had sent to his wife.
Verkhovna Rada traditionally ignored the awkward question. But the website of the Lvov Bank posted a warning that due to the changing monetary policy of the National Bank of Ukraine banknotes of the Ukraine’s national currency of old design will not be accepted by bank departments starting with 1 June 2014. Some time later the notification was deleted but a bad aftertaste remained.

Summing up this information, one can claim offhand that the latest national revolution has successfully ended with a banal robbery of ordinary people and huge wealth accumulation by oligarchs. We have a feeling that the hryvna will be disposed of quietly. At least, there is not a word about it in the media, so it would be reasonable to suppose that at a certain moment people will face the need to exchange their hryvnas for the new currency at an extortionate rate. In this way the new government will try to settle the internal debt. We know at whose expense.

Since when is leaking highly classified material free speech? Would it be free speech if the forum admins leaked your personal details, like email address and IP location? Perhaps there should be no secrets - would you like to share your real name, address, annual salary and sexual preferences with us? I'm guessing the response will be "no".

Whilst Putin's actions currently have support from a lot of Russians, quite probably a majority, most of the information the Russian public is getting is being controlled by the Kremlin, with the media being forced to or is compliant in painting a false picture of Nazis taking over Ukraine and preparing genocide of Russian-speaking Ukrainians. If they understood that this is a power grab by Putin and a temper-tantrum because his puppet was forced out, they might change their position or modify it.

It is refreshing to see that at least some Russians are opposed to what has happened. I'm sorry to see an old soldier being man-handled in such a way. I would have thought he would have been treated with more respect, but I guess this is what we get with Putin's Russia.

In yesterday's edition of my Dutch newspaper its ombudsman said that its commentary was pro-western because its charter from 1970 said it should be.
Besides its correspondent in Moscow left several months ago and has not yet been replaced.

The one differing opinion was from a part-owner of the publisher of the paper who got rich publishing magazines in Moscow and knows the country and it's politics well.

I think it will turn out to have been hot air rather than cold war unless Washington can control its allies. But Washington's standing has been severely damaged, most particularly in the most important country, Germany, by what Snowdon has been telling us.

NSA-chief Hayden won't stop spying, but at least he is appologizing to Germans for it. This news is now even flashed through the newsscreens on Munich underground stations. Might be a new topic for a "So sorry" exhibition by Ai Weiwei.

this article is interesting, not only for what it says, but also from the magazine that published it.

The Spectator is regarded as the house magazine of the Tory Party; former editors include current mayor of London Boris Johnson, so to read such sentiments here is almost unprecedented. The tone of the readers comments also I think reflect the popular view in the UK and are in tune with the very few occasions that the BBC have included a Have Your Say (HYS) section in their reports.

Beyond that, the events of the last few days have demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that the armed forces of the UKraine are not prepared to fight for the new regime in Kiev and that this is the biggest question yet raised to its legitimacy.

You would have thought that "a blatant land grab" of a strategic and heavily militarised region, through a referendum that Kiev and its friends do not recognise, would have been the perfect legitimate reason for Ukraine forces on the Peninsular to resist with deadly force and for reinforcements from the rest of Ukraine to try and retake the peninsular.
The lack of action speaks volumes, especially with the only two fatalities to date seemingly from a Galacian Nationalist provocator (claimed by Russia and not denied by Kiev or NATO).
Instead of resistance there appears to be a massive degree of defection.
I wonder if the new regime actually has more to fear from its own military generals, than it does from Russia?

With all due respect from today's Maidan rally:
sociologists announced latest figures - 43 percent negative assessment of Maidan among Ukraine's population.

I find the articles by Liam Halligan in The Daily Tekegraph often very valuable, as this one is. Thank you SampanViking for bringing this article to our attention and also for your remarks.

An now for some light relief, from the BBC website:

Supreme Allied Commander Europe Gen Philip Breedlove said Nato was in particular concerned about the threat to Moldova's Trans-Dniester region.

--------

He said: "The [Russian] force that is at the Ukrainian border now to the east is very, very sizeable and very, very ready."

He added: "There is absolutely sufficient force postured on the eastern border of Ukraine to run to Trans-Dniester if the decision was made to do that and that is very worrisome.
{/QUOTE]

And it added a map showing that Trans-Dniester borders on the the Far West of Ukraine. Of course the Ukraine military are unlikely to want to defend the abject regime in Kiev but that's no reason to think the Russians would take that route if they wanted to support T-D. Perhaps he just looked in a map in an Atlas and didn't realize how large that distance is.

There was survey conducted in Poland this year. People were asked: "what are you ready to sacrifice for Poland?", and 41% answered: "nothing", only 19 % answered they are ready to sacrifice their life or health for Poland (for the goverment).
I don't thing if there are many people in Ukraine ready to fight and die for the current goverment in Kiev.

Dear Rutin,
I've been following live Ukrainian independent TV coverage of Maidan development daily since the first day and recommend anyone of those capable of Ukrainian speech to do so also (Hromadske TV; Espreso TV), including you.
Today's figures were presented at a huge rally as kinda lessons to be learned. You'd better accept reality even if you don't like it. Country is divided. And people on Maidan know it. And try find solutions.
