Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 is Missing

They are now expanding to the Indian Ocean

Also the satellites in use are mainly civilian satellites not military satellites the US military satellites are concentrated much North than this keeping a close eye on North Korea not the South China Sea

CNN reported USN will search places in the Indian Ocean for the missing airliner. I wonder what evidence US Intelligence services have to drive that action. I mean it's a big ocean, and it's not likely the Navy told a ship captain to just roam around the place, so they must have an area of focus.

So much contradiction going on it's starting to smell like a cover-up. Maybe it was accidentally shot-down.

I think the cover up is mainly to disguise dereliction, lax proceedures, and culpable cluelessness.

Countries like Vietnam, Malaysia, and Phillipines really doesn't have a prayer of covering up an accidental shoot down successfully in the long run.

Except the Pentagon said they detected no airborne explosions in the area at large.

I wonder what means the Pentagon uses to detect airborne explosions?

Visible light or infrared Flash? There needn't be any external visible flash if the explosion was largely contained onboard the plane and damaged the plane fatally from the inside. The sensor may also not see an external flash if it occurred on the opposite side of the aircraft from the sensor and is shielded from the sensor by the plane itself.

Sound or pressure pulse from the explosion? Again there may be none if the explosion is largely contained onboard.

It seems awefully sketchy to rule out an explosion merely from the fact that external sensors many miles, if not hundred or thousands of miles, away not detecting any explosion.

USN is going to start flying Poseidons in search of MH370 if she is still not found soon.

This event has to go down as one of the biggest naval SAR in modern history with the amount of countries and assets participating. I heard India has recently joined in the search as well on the Andaman sea. Conincidently the

is located there so I would find it extremely doubtful if the plane flew anywhere close to there and their search radars etc didn't pick up the blip. Or if they did they haven't told anyone about it.

If MH370 did crash in the Indian Ocean recovery will be much harder because there is a huge drop off in the continental shelf from a couple hundred ft to thousands.

My best guess is they were using the same sensors as the ones used for detecting BM launches but you are right if the explosion is internal those sensors won't 'see' it.

Ballistic missile burn fuel at a rate of hundred of kgs per second and generates a huge and very hot plume. I think unless the MH370's fuel tanks caught fire or blew up in flight it wouldn't generate anything like that kind of an infrared signature.

So the question is how good of a chance does a system tune to warn of ballistic missile launch have in detecting the whole spectrum of possibly explosions that could have disabled or brought down the BH370?

WX obviously plays a signficant role in detection and being that the WX was really good the time and location when contact was lost I would say it increases the odds of detection. As to their effectiveness .. obviously l don't know but an educated guess would be they are are probably multitude more sensitive in their detection ability than that of a typical flash and heat signature from a typical BM launch.
