Re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

As it now appears most likely that production of 052D series Destroyers will commence, or has already started at 'Dalian' shipyard........................My question is will we get to see photos of the ships constuction at Dalian?

The reason i ask, is ever since ive posted here, i have seen photos of warship construction at JN, HP and HD shipyards, but apart from photos of the Liaoning at the quayside at Dalian, i dont think ive ever seen photos of warship construction elsewhere at Dalian!
Well, they are not Type 052 DDGs, but remember these?

Both built and launched at Dalian.

Yes, thanks Jeff...........i knew Dalian had built a previous class of Destroyer there, not too long ago...................but

was just wondering though, does the layout of the Dalian shipyard, allow, lets say access for a photograpic opportunity, in which one can see the build of vessels in their construction sheds, as we have been able to see in other shipyards in China, rather than then having to wait until the vessel is launched, and is being outfitted at the quayside?

My guess is no, since to take those pictures you would needs to be in helicopter fly above Dalian Bay. My guess, it's would be the same as Vayag watching, see ships just magically appear out of dry dock looking different.

Newest eye candy... Is it just me or the panels still have a very slight curvature?

I don't think so, not when I take the pic into PS and zoom in. However, three other things.

1) I wonder what is under the tarp behind the main gun. It is clearly on the destroyer when looking at both pics.

2) The FL-3000N is clearly a 24 cell launcher.

3) In the 1st pic, there is a Navy vessel superstructure in the background...I wonder what type of vessel that is for. I do not recognize it...but kind of thought it could just possibly be something interesting. Those windows on the vessel look like they may be for watching and controlling something on a deck.

1) Could be something to do with the VLS.

3) Are you referring to the large, gray superstructure on the right of the photo, 'directly' behind 052D's main gun? If so, I don't think it's a military vessel. If you notice on the far left of the photo, there is a white superstructure. It appears to be of identical design to the aforementioned gray superstructure. It's a civilian tanker or some sort, I believe.

Watching Jiangnan has not been as difficult as was anticipated when the shipyard moved from downtown Shanghai to the remote Changxing Island. There really have no surprises from this new shipyard.

The building dock and the associated construction halls at Dalian will no doubt be fully occupied with the first 001A, starting in 2014.

I expect that the two Type 052D destroyers will be built on the same open building ways, at 38 56 00 N 121 38 28 E, as the two LUZHOU class 115 and 116 in 2005-2006, and before them by three YUTING II class landing ships 911, 912, and 996 in 2003-2004.

The predecessor of the LUZHOU class, LUHAI class 167, was also built here in 1999.

There ought consequently to be no problems with following the construction of the 052D’s.

That would be great news of Dalian did do that it would be very beneficial to have two very capable shipyards doing the bulk of the work to add the heavy tonnage to PLAN

JNCX can go on with Type 052D dedicate the second hallway to Type 055 CG and Dalian can push ahead with Type 052D and Carrier construction

Get HP and HD do the flat tops Amphibous assault ships add the critical mass to the navy in the form of the corvettes and frigates

According to widely spread/published rumor, HP has started building the 40+K tons replenishment/supply ship. It is also said that HD will start to build 071A this year. I hope that is true and also HD will build the LHD/LHA eventually. Then you will have the four main shipyards for military ships to specialize in different types of ships:

JNCX - Carrier, Cruiser/Destroyer
Dalian - Carrier, Cruiser/Destroyer
HD - LPD/LHD/LHA, Frigate
HP - AOR/support ships, Frigate
