Drink is correct. Only one j-10b, so far, is shown using the WS-10 engine. From what I've gathered, first batch of J-10B will use Russian engines, but all will be equipped with AESA radars.

Its true there is only one J-10B flying with a WS-10A engine that's prototype 1035. The others are all flying with the AL-31's including the production planes. They say that the first batch of J-10B production will use the AL-31 but the second batch will use the WS-10A. That may or may not happen as the WS-10 is only in serial production since 2010 that's only 3 years ago. We know that it has been making remarkable progress since then, but i don't know if its ready for single engine operations yet. I think the second batch maybe too soon for the WS-10A. Perhabs in a few years, but when that happens it will be THE conformation of its improved reliability.

They are indeeed different aircraft:

1. Image = psed 1035 with number erased = 5. prototype
2. Image = regular image of 1035 showing WS-10B
3. Image = refurbished 1031 = first prototype with AL-31FN (carries now a plain grey colour with yellow 1031)
4. Image = a very old image of the original firstr prototype 1031 prior to its new two-tone colour and prior to receiving the pitot-less radome (IMO close to its maiden flight years ago ... note the semisonformal pods under wing)

Thanks Deino.

So there are actually two aircraft from those four pics.

1035 which is using the WS-10.

1031 which has been refurbished, but is using the AL-31.

So, only one J-10B so far with the WS-10 and that is 1035.

Thanks.

I have see some rumors saying J-10B should be delivered to the first regiment soon, maybe very soon, 44th Division be approached.

Any comments.

Sound reasonable ... the same was with the first J-10A regiment - often said due to being close to CAC - and even more the 44. FD has still two regiments with J-7s left !

There is no PLAAF division with two J-10 regiments (or two J-11 regiments for that matter), so if 44 Div gets J-10B, it will likely be in 131 Regt - which will then pass on its J-10A's to some J-7 regiment elsewhere.

I think the explanation why 44 Div was chosen to be the first with J-10 is likely correct. Similarly, the first division with J-11 was 1 Div Anshan, which is close to Shenyang.

New J-10 shows comprehensive rather than partial improvements
(People's Daily Online) 15:31, November 12, 2013
Email|Print|Comments twitter facebook Sina Microblog reddit
On November 6th Zhang Jigao, deputy chief designer of the J-10 fighter, spoke about the improved model J-10 publicly for the first time in the AVIC flight test center. Zhang Jigao told People's Daily Online reporters that the overall performance of the J-10 will be comprehensively improved in areas such as aerodynamic layout, mission system, and the approach to maintenance.

In March 2009, pictures of our improved model J-10 fighters appeared for the first time on the Internet, and netizens quickly began to call it the "J-10B".

Over the last five 5 years, several images of the test J-10B have appeared online, attracting widespread attention from netizens, military enthusiasts, and even foreign media.

U.S. military expert Richard Fisher recently pointed out that the J-10B is a so-called "fourth and a half" generation fighter equipped with modern airborne technology and an advanced radar system, which is about to be delivered to the PLA Air Force.

Zhang Jigao disputed the term "fourth and a half" generation. In contrast, he suggested that the current international criteria to classify generations are more applicable.

He pointed out that single combat is rare in modern warfare, and that the majority of cases now involve system combat and network operations, so that the combat capabilities of a fighter depend on many factors. "This does not mean that the optimization of an aircraft's radar, avionics, and missile detection ranges are bound to improvements in operational performance."

Zhang Jigao added that further improvements to the performance of the J10 would focus on the aircraft's aerodynamic layout and mission systems, and the approach to maintenance. "Aircraft development requires constant optimization and improvement," he said, "and our modifications will be comprehensive rather than being confined to a specific area."
