I have absolutely no idea what this back and forth is about in the last 10 posts or so LOL .. it's like a lot of talking but no real substance.
Truth is tanks are it's most effective when it's open warfare prefebly in flat land or plains. The were never designed for urban city type combat or mountainous region where enemies with RPGs or other weapons can hide in buildings or easily blend into their environment. They also work best in combine arms tactics where they work together with infantry, APCs, attack helos etc.
Yes it's true that China has never been involve in any 'real' modern tank battles and latest 'Types' are not combat proven BUT other than the US Army/Marine, Israel and a small handful other countries, most nations' tanks have not either. Until China goes into a major tank battle we can only speculate on it's true effectiveness, of it's tactics and the tanks themselves.

Tanks are like moving forts used to hold open areas. One tank alone can hold Km^2s in an open plain. In cities you can just post troops in hard buildings.

I would argue the US has not either. Fighting insurgents and third world armies armed with tanks and missiles one or more generations ago does not count. Israel has come closer than the US because it has faced modern Russian ATGMs..

I agree somewhat although you're just being nitpicky.. Israel may have faced modern ATGM's carried by individuals hiding in urban areas etc but even they have not face an actual tank battle consist of combine arms with hundreds of tanks, infantry in the open battlefield. You have to go back over 40 years for that.

The most recent 'real' tank battle you have to go back to the 1st Gulf War. Between the 2nd Armored Cav and the Iraqi Republican Guards. I know a guy who fought there.

Well, it's more of a turkey shoot than a real tank battle, this video supposedly from from Battle of Medina ridge. Look how relaxed everyone is while Iraqi tanks explode in the distance. Supposedly 186 Iraqi tanks are destroyed in this battle, almost the entire 2nd Brigade of the al-Medinah al-Munawera Division.

... and you prove my point even further in which case you have to go back EVEN further to find a tank battle where both sides are relatively on par with each other.

The Arab-Israeli wars would be the best example. And the Israeli's won their engagements for the most part.

A more recent example would be the Iran-Iraq war, but since western kit did not really distinguish themselves much in that conflict, it is never mentioned in mainstream western publications.

Check the amount of armour that they are moving by rail, it's the best way to shift gear, I count a regiments of tanks in that one picture alone which by air would take a regiment of heavy cargos
