The rumour is that Dalian will take over some (four) of the 052D's because Jiangnan cannot cope.

I also expect that Dalian will build the first two indigenous carriers.

The two projects probably do not compete other than for workforce. The destroyers would likely be built on the same building ways as Type 051C, while the carriers would build in the new drydock (with associated assembly halls) that was built for LIAONING in 2009-2010.

Remember, Dalian used to be China's leading destroyer yard, building both the first and the last 051 (hence their class name LUDA, for Lushun-Dalian as the cities were known in the 50's).

Interesting point, Dalian is a massive shipyard and they do have all the facility's and experience in place to build a future indigenous carrier, it will be a exciting time when they do start one, I wonder if we will see a model of it first then the real thing

Jiangnan doesnt lack building facilities. Its enormous. Its shanghai. The best qualified personnal must be working there, at least in terms of shipyard. Together with Hudong shipyard, thats where all the PLAN biggest ships have been building in the past years. it would seem logical to build the carrier there.

If the PLAN wants to build their new carriers there, it would make sense to spread the 052D production to other yards because the best personnel and facilities/equipment would likely be occupied with the carrier programme to be able to build 052D as fast as they could now.

Probably with the same inefficiencies and bureaucratic idiocies as any other old state-own enterprises. North east people are not known for their work ethics and smarts. I personally know a lady who worked in SAC. She told me the people in there do nothing all day.

Stay classy...
