Interesting... Did the Filipinos think it was a boat from the Mainland so they fired. Or did they fire because they knew it wasn't from the Mainland?

If it was a deliberate attack, then it would almost certainly have been that they opened fire because they thought it was a mainland ship.

The Philippines' entire strategy is pretty much one of provocation and then running to hide behind America's skirts and call China the bad guy when China reacts.

Personally I think the US pushed a few countries to poke China in the eye expecting a reaction from China in order for the pivot towards Asia be accepted in the region. Obama just didn't think it would go this far. Like I've mentioned before I always read how US Presidential advisors who are supposed experts on Asia all tell US Presidents China doesn't want to be left out of anything and doing so will put pressure and force China to comply. Has that ever worked? Notice the pivot rhetoric has been toned down especially in Obama's State of the Union speech? He hardly talked about Asia especially the pivot except in passing. Singapore, who has been said to been part of this "pivot" idea, recently cried out publicly for the US not to waver from the pivot. That says Obama recognizes it was a mistake and Singapore now sees repercussions for themselves if the US backs off.

Just like the Western media didn't report the British man raping a Chinese girl in public. Does that mean it didn't happen? Even the Youtube video showing it is a lie.

The video you're about to see never happened. Don't worry nothing graphic.

Funny how all manilaboy does lately is report negative stories about China as reported by the Philippines. Now he's really sensitive when the tables are turned.

Because they know something you don't: S_it just hit the fan.

You could at least be more respectable, if anything for the girl who lost her father.

The Philippine Navy on Thursday deployed three of its ships in the Kalayaan Group of Islands following reports that a Chinese navy frigate and two civilian ships were seen approaching a reef and a shoal in the area.A highly-placed source said the Navy deployed the PN PS36, a Peacock Class offshore patrol, a frigate-type (PS 74) and a personnel carrier vessel (PS 71) to the Ayungin Reef and Hasahasa islet to monitor the presence of the Chinese vessels.

The source said that the Chinese frigate has yet to arrive at the Ayungin Reef, while the two civilian ships were fast approaching the reefs.Chinese vessels were also spotted near the Hasasa Reef, which is located near Ayungin.“As of now they have not entered Ayungin Reef and Hasasa shoal but the three Navy vessels were dispatched to monitor the behavior of the Chinese in the West Philippine Sea,” the source said.

"1 dead in Philippine attack on Taiwan boat
By John Liu ,The China Post

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- One Taiwanese sailor was shot dead yesterday when a boat registered to Pingtung County was attacked by the Philippine military in the disputed South China Sea, according to Taiwan's Coast Guard Administration (CGA).

President Ma Ying-jeou expressed great concern over the attack and has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to demand that the Philippine government investigate the incident and arrest the culprit.

A sailor on the Kuang Ta Hsing No. 28 (廣大興28號) said they were fishing 170 nautical miles off the southern tip of Taiwan when they came under attack.

Philippines naval forces opened fire with machine guns without any warning, killing 65-year-old Hung Shih-cheng (洪石成), the father of the boat's skipper.

Another witness account says that the fishing boat was attacked by Philippine naval cannon.

The boat suffered engine failure after the attack.

Another sailor said he could not determine whether the shots were fired from a military frigate or an armed private vessel.

The CGA dispatched its Tainan (台南艦) vessel to rescue the stricken boat. Two Taiwanese fishing vessels helped to tow the Kuang Ta Hsing No. 28 back to Taiwan under the escort of the CGA.

Ma said he was greatly concerned by the incident.

He has instructed the Foreign Ministry to demand that the Philippine government investigate the attack incident and punish those responsible to ensure that the sovereignty of the Republic of China is maintained.

After consultation with Premier Jiang Yi-huah (江宜樺), Ma ordered MOFA, the CGA and the Fisheries Agency to stay on top of the case. He also expressed condolences to the victim's family and ordered that all necessary assistance be offered to them, said Presidential Office spokesperson Garfie Li.

The death of the sailor mandates further investigation, said Chou Yin-hwou, deputy director-general of MOFA's Department of East Asian and Pacific Affairs.

Chou added that the ministry has expressed its concern to the Philippines over the case and has lodged a protest over the attack.

As of press time the Philippines' naval authorities said they had not received any relevant reports on the incident. The Philippine navy, coast guard, sea police and fisheries and water resource bureau all indicated that they had not received any notices of the attack.

“If a naval vessel was involved in such an incident, we would have received a notice immediately,” said a Philippine naval public relations officer.

“The location where the attack occurred is far from the coast, and our boat was not present at the time,” said Philippine seawater police."
