China's transport, tanker & heavy lift aircraft

Just don't understand why the Chinese like to use the phrase "some type..." but not "the type...". Just can't get it over! They're too secretive even at such a ceremony!

The culture of secrecy is in-grain into Chinese bureaucracy, proponents will drone you day and night on how the KMT lost the war due to their utter deficiency in this department...but then again, like a lot of things in China, they're behind the curve really. Enough about that now.

As for the engines, I'm not holding my breath until there's a solid evidence when a unedited pict clearly showing a Y-20 flew with 4 WS-20 engines, that's about the time we can say it has been certified and goes into full production..unless serial production already begun as late as at the start of this year, it won't be anytime soon.

Now, now, flight testing on the testbed is money in the bank, and they will likely test one or two on the inboard Y-20 pylons as the next step, just wait till it shows up on 2003, now that will be exciting, Ye Hah! AFB

China might be behind in a few areas but it will be ahead in most areas by 2030. Chinese system is all about finding out weaknesses and seeking improvement, that's one of the major reasons China will surpass the United States by 2030. US is too complacent, just like in the Korean War, it is the Achilles heel of the US. China has nothing to lose and everything to gain, whereas US has nothing to gain and everything to lose.

I can give you a list where China is AHEAD in MANY economic indicators.

Tell me when the day comes that Chinese keep their road vehicles - not just private cars, commercial vehicles of all purposes and weight classes -clean and in good conditions like the Japanese does...or when their public places in much better shape...if Beijing still has ways to go imagine the other lower-tier cities and towns. Management and upkeep are still something China have a long way to catch up.

US isn't complacent as you'd put it, mostly is about money, the difficulty in getting the needed funding; then all the interest groups, NIMBY people gets in the way of "necessary evil" progress, by-product of democracy...besides, most things are already at its zenith, if we to stay in topic then it'd be air lifters - how could air lifter can be improved further than that of C-17 and C-130J?

If you want to stray off-topic and talk about the N.Korea situation, well...if that "little fat kid" keep playing the zippo then it'd not just get him burned, we'd witness the race between US and China, of who'd reach Pyongyang first to prop up a new regime first...

i think China must be pouring its resources into WS-20, because simply put, Y-20 will not fullfill its objective of a heavy cargo lifter unless it has the engines to back it up

its like me buying a Mercedes SLR, but my engine is only working on 6 cylinders, its designed to take full power of 12 but still i use only 6, kind of defeats the whole purpose of a high performance car and is not good use of my money

Y-20 is designed to lift maybe ~65 tons+ maybe even 70, it will never do that with its current engine, therefore a more powerful engine needs to be found, i.e. WS-20, it must be quite far along in its development

I still think the An-70 would fit nicely to the PLAAF ! :p

AN70 has a niche but a bad niche

Its too big to be used tactically. but too slow to use strategically.

too inefficient to move pallets between airports.

too large and expensive to move pallets into dirt strips.

same with A400.

the future is with Turbofan powered large transport plus small twin turbofan like KC-390 and quad turboprops like C130J.
