In that case they may as well paint the air brakes red for the same reason boy racers paint their car brakes..........and that will be real cool

Are the wheel brakes anti skid? Does the plane need traction control and automatic self parking if used on carriers?

haha, the chief designer of J-15 and J-31 is the same guy, Sun Cong 孙聪! design two aircrafts at the same time!!!

he told the difficulty and hardship in testing the J-15: broken arrest wires, broken wing, broken tires, engine shut down in the air.......

Chief designer doesn't mean he is the one doing the design (detail design) of both planes, his task might be to lead 2 teams of designers (much like managerial task)... so a chief designer can be involved in multiple designs, also, it might mean that J-15 and J-31 actually shared more similarity (internally) than we really know.

Perhaps it's an indication on a naval role for j-31 as well. Both planes would then face similar hardship. Unless the chief designer is multi-talented, the projects should at least have some commonality. Between j-31 and j-15, there aren't many. Not superficially at least. Except if both are carrier-based

He probably drew a aeroplane line art on an napkin and another one on the back, call his two design teams over,.

"You, make this plane, and you, make that plane, 23rd is the deadline, now, GET TO WORK /whiplash"

In other words, it is not that hard to chief design two totally different fighters at once.
