It looks like the "World News" trend has been hi jacked by a few members turning this into a "Philippine and US's response to China over South sea thread" I have no problem with this, but I think it is best if you actually start a new tread for this.

So that every time when members get an email update we won't be spamming by the "news" of "ZOMG EVIL CHINESE!!!! DOING EVIL STUFF TO PEACE LOVING NATIONS ALL OVER THE WORLD!!!!"

Here is two news of recent transportation accidents happened in US and Japan, I hope not so many people got hurt. Notice the news actually reports abut the news of the accident. And remember every time an railroad or tunnel collapses in China it is NOT just news, it also represents a political angle of how the corrupt government building shandy constructions. But when any other nation on earth have an accident, it is just an innocent accident... it does not represents anything else... China, nah, everything have to be political.

TOKYO (AP) — Japanese police say that parts of a tunnel have collapsed on a highway west of Tokyo, trapping an unknown number of vehicles as smoke from a fire inside prevented rescuers from approaching.

A police spokesman, Yoshihiro Fukutani, said police were still trying to learn the exact situation inside the Sasago Tunnel, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) outside the city, after parts of a wall inside collapsed early Sunday morning.

Television footage showed police vehicles, fire trucks and ambulances massed outside the tunnel's entrance. A man who said he saw the collapse and alerted authorities to the emergency managed to escape after he was ordered to flee. The roof and windows of another vehicle parked on the roadside outside the tunnel were crushed; the injured occupants reportedly taken to a hospital.

A rail bridge collapsed on Friday over a creek in southern New Jersey, causing a Conrail freight train to derail and spill hazardous chemicals into the air and water, authorities said.

One of four tanks of the freight train carrying vinyl chloride fell into Mantua Creek, and its contents leaked into the waterway, which feeds into the Delaware River near Philadelphia, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

Some 22 people were taken to a nearby hospital for precautionary examinations and were doing fine, said Larry Ragonese, a DEP spokesman who said the health danger and environmental impact was minimal.

"Initially there was a release of gas into the air that affected some nearby residents and people working right in that area," he said.

Exposure to vinyl chloride, a highly toxic and flammable industrial chemical, can cause burning eyes or respiratory discomfort, he said.

Authorities evacuated a half-mile (805-metre) area around the spill, which took place at about 7 a.m. EST (1200 GMT) in Paulsboro, New Jersey, just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

Local schools were closed and students were sent home, authorities said.

The leak was contained and no longer posed a threat, and authorities were using booms to trap the chemical in the water, Ragonese said.

At the scene, one of the freight cars was nearly vertical, nose-down and partly submerged in the creek. Other cars lay jumbled on the embankment.

"It's part of living in Paulsboro, with refineries and trains. We accept it," said resident John Diamond, 53, who was taking photographs at the scene.

The area is thick with chemical plants, and two refineries, PBF Energy's Paulsboro and Nustar's Asphault, are nearby.

Locals fish and go crabbing and jet-ski in the creek in the warm months, Diamond said.

Air quality monitors in the area did not register any problem, said Lawrence Hajna, also with the state DEP.

"All the levels are coming in within our safety range," he said.

The swing bridge that collapsed underwent extensive repairs after getting damaged in a 2009 derailment of a coal freight train, said John Burzichelli, a state assemblyman and former mayor of Paulsboro.

New Jersey State Senate President Steve Sweeney, also on the scene, said a nearby homeowner reported hearing a "loud bang" from the bridge about two days ago, and Burzichelli said Conrail had come out to examine it in response.

"That bridge is very old. It's not a good day for Conrail," Burzichelli said.

Conrail officials could not be immediately reached for comment. Sweeney said he too was having trouble getting in contact with Conrail.

Conrail is jointly owned by rail operators CSX Corp and Norfolk Southern Corp.

The U.S. Coast Guard was responding to the accident along with the DEP.

I agree a new thread would be best for discussion, but as you and I have shown earlier here, discussion on controversial topics like these territorial disputes quickly get out of hand.

This leads to the thread being closed and we are back at step one (thinking of the Senkaku thread here, in which my post would have fit the topic perfectly). Probably best to just post the news here and leave it at that if people can't keep their emotions at a safe distance.

Everyone has a right to post whatever fits the parameters of the topic thread here though, whatever anyone's opinions on the story.

Philippines have had foreign troops on their mainland continuously for the last few centuries til today. Don't know what's the big deal with some rocks in South China Sea.

Perhaps you should ask the Chinese government since they are the ones that decided to station 3 patrol ships there permanently , Scarborough Shoal has been Annexed Illegally due to the fact that they are in total control of the area since June ...

In Other World News ...

JALALABAD, Afghanistan (Reuters) - Suicide attackers detonated bombs and fired rockets outside a major U.S. base in Afghanistan on Sunday and police said 12 bodies were found near a gate, highlighting the country's security challenges ahead of the 2014 NATO combat troop pullout.

Local police officials said a dozen bodies in Afghan police and military uniforms were scattered around the entrance of the airfield in the eastern city of Jalalabad. A Taliban spokesman said the militant group had launched the 6 a.m. assault.

Yes great idea, you and ManilaBoy45 keep posting opinion pieces that only supports the Philippine and US position and talk points from the Philippine officials ONLY and call it "world news". I'm sure this represents 100% of what is going on in the "world" for the 7 billion people living on it. It also 100% represents the fair and balanced opinion of both China and Philippine's side of story.

Yes, just like the post above me.

IMHO, the lotteries, pretty much all of them, play on people's desire to strike it rich in one big move...it projects false hope to tens of millions and is actually more of a tax on those who are in the least position to afford it because it plays on an almost sure thing that people will spend some of their money...and in too many cases IMHO, far too much of their money to try and hit the jackpot.

It is simply playing on a "gambling" mentality and fervor that takes hold of folks and gets them to take money away from milk, food, clothing, etc. from those who are least able to afford it...but in the hopes of a one in many millions chance to strike it rich.

Sad state of affairs, IMHO...but then again, it is their choice.

But it is funny how on something like this, so many of the very people who push for safety nets and cushions to help folks avoid the consequences in some cases of improper choices they make and what they lead to, are all in favor of this type of foolish choice that drains these very people of their needed resources.

Oh well, there's my contrary post of the day. Carry on.
The last time I bought a lottery ticket was some 55 years ago.

Yes, just like the post above me.

If the news I'd posted were opinion pieces, they would be deleted, and these disputes are as much world news as anything else, and something I feel is rather important.

If you can't deal with media coming at the issues from a different viewpoint than you are comfortable with, Then don't read it, otherwise you are just going to have to deal with it.

This will be my last post on this, you can have the last word if you desire it, I just don't desire this longstanding thread being derailed or the valid news I've posted being called as opinion pieces when they aren't.

I'm sorry, yes go ahead and post more "news" from US and Philippines position questioning China's motive over and over and over again like a broken record, I'm sure it represents 100% of what is going on in world today for "world news".

Go ahead, I'm waiting for you to post more "news" of US and Philippines official calling China bullying, I'm dying to read the same thing over and over again.
