[h=2]Combat in the city[/h]
An eerie silence hung over Singapore's Central Business District (CBD).

Arriving at the scene in two Terrex Infantry Carrier Vehicles (ICVs), infantry soldiers from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) were confronted with a disconcerting sight: Shenton Way was in shambles. Vehicles were overturned, and bodies were strewn across a debris-covered road as buildings nearby burned on.

As the troops moved out to survey and clear the area, they were met with enemy fire. A deafening explosion sounded as an enemy projectile hit a taxi the servicemen had been taking cover behind.

"And … cut!" the director yelled, wrapping up one take during the filming of Ah Boys To Men, Jack Neo's latest production.

Syrian rebel fighter, Tawfiq Hassan, 23, a former butcher, poses for a picture, after returning from fighting against Syrian army forces in Aleppo, at a rebel headquarters in Marea on the outskirts of Aleppo city, Syria, Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012. In their previous lives, they were butchers, barbers, construction workers and university students. Now they are rebels fighting a civil war they hope will end the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Those Syrian Rebels are pretty well armed. I know they couldn't have gotten it from their own deserted army cache...somebody must've been supplying them.

The FAL with the sight that one of the rebels is carrying is a likely candidate. Most of the other weapons be from the Syrian Army (especially considering that people in the ranks of the Army and other security forces frequently sell weapons to the rebels). However they could also be from Iraq, or Lebanon. I would suspect that the AKs with the wooden foregrips in the second picture are Iraqi, those seem to be quite common in Iraq, and there is very active weapons smuggling from Iraq (where weapons and smugglers are plentiful, both Saddam's leftover stuff and a constant flow from Iraqi security forces looking to do business with "good friends" and get some extra cash), via tribal smuggling networks that have always crossed the Iraqi-Syrian border. Lebanon is a hub of the illegal international small arms trade in the Middle East and has been a major gateway to Syria. I know personally that the individual small arms dealers in Lebanon that buy (or steal) from international dealers or from the Lebanese security forces or from the vast stockpiles of Lebanon's militias are doing a very good business supporting the Syrian rebels.

Some weapons flowing into Syria are paid for entirely by the rebels, some are paid for and provided for by outside governments, it's impossible to say how much of each is going on.
